I have a 2012 megacab 3500 diesel been running t6 shell but I'm having a lot of exhaust soot in my exhaust it been that way since before having my dpf cleaned had at garage dealer ram and it cost me a lot to get cleaned replaced many parts and still same issues is it the oil ? Ash to high ? When I pulled dpf the soot in my exhaust pipe just after turbo was about 18/" thick all the way around inside exhaust pipe. Replaced egr and the dealer dumped themselves in my emission system and to out my turbo it sat there 31 days and they got a guy from the factory engineer to come to scottsdale az to help figure it out he wrote I know more about 2013 but not 2012 emission systems that's the truth could not believe the stupidness of his written description of problem. I change oil 3000 miles like clock work and have a k&N air filter no other mods bone stock. I pulled truck from dealer and took it to a 4x4 diesel shop told them think they destroyed my turbo 2 hrs later the said correct so I put a new turbo no I'm still getting heavy sout build up truck runs fine just not clean any help would be appreciated no comments just blow it up or buy a different brand please. The truck has 105,000 miles for a 2012 was thinking delete kit but thought I'd try this

if you have that much soot something isnt running properly.
I'd suggest fixing the truck and spending a min to put some punctuation/spacing/proofreading in your posts.
Hard to read.

You OCI every 3k miles. Therefore I SERIOUSLY doubt your engine is burning any substantial amount of oil in 3k miles. Which means the oil is not the cause of the soot in the exhaust. Whatever the issue is, it's not the T6 that is to blame.

And, when you post, please use proper punctuation, shorten the run-on sentences, etc. Your post is very difficult to follow.

How much oil are you burning that this is the suspected cause of the soot?

Agree with Rand above.
Because I change oil every 3000 I never notice any oil consumption. When I dump old oil into my new empty jugs it fills them to same level as the new oil that was installed into my truck. If there is any difference it's nominal. Sorry about spelling I did this on my small cell phone and every time I tried to review what I typed it would start to change thing thanks google

Then the oil isn’t the cause of the soot.

@bogtank I have the same truck but in a 2500. I have used Mobil Delvac 5w40 and 15w40 in the past. I am running Mystik JT-8 15w40 currently. Personally, FWIW, I don't think you have an oil issue. I don't see excessive soot on my truck but a few things for you to consider.

1 - I removed my AFE CAI 5 years ago. It was causing me issues with the check engine light and did not provide any benefit or value.
2 - why 3k miles on the OCI? I go 7,500 at least. What is the gain by doing 3k?
3 - if you aren't seeing any noticeable oil use, I'm guessing the soot is from the fuel. Are you buying from high volume places that fuel doesn't sit?
4 - have you changed your fuel filter recently? Did you use a Mopar or Fleetguard?
5 - how do you drive the truck? Is it short tripped? Is the EGR and DPF allowed to cycle?
6 - have you removed the EGR and cleaned it?
7 - have you removed the tube to the grid heater and cleaned that?

I'd check these things before moving away from Rotella. I've never used Rotella, but I have never seen anyone claim it was the cause of sooting issues either.

It’s not the oil, these trucks pre-DEF need to be worked hard and get hot to burn the soot off otherwise they get all clogged up. The recommendation for cleaning the EGR and replacing the CCV filter is 67,500 miles but really needs done sooner along with pulling the intake horn and cleaning the grid heater.

Idling for extended periods of time and/or short tripping just makes it worse, the engine may not being going into regen. burning off particulate as much or as long as needed. Get rid of the aftermarket air filter, get a plain paper filter and change it every 15k miles along with your fuel filter like the manual recommends.

Exactly what Bighorn2500 said. Before the DEF injection, these trucks used a massive amount of EGR to accomplish the same thing. Also biodiesel greater than 5% is really hard on the DPF system because of the soot it generates.

Biodiesel greater than 5% is not approved in the pre DEF trucks like my 2012. I have a hard time finding it in my area.
