what do you like in 9mm ammo ?

124gr or 147gr with a slight preference towards 124gr.

I’m only talking about felt recoil impulse. Not terminal ballistics. That’s another conversation I’m not qualified to talk about.

I've shot 124gn for years, about 90k rds thru my CZ Shadow now but transitioned to 147gn lately mostly due to bullets (not ammo) availability and price on 147 being same and sometimes lower; I reload thou. With 147gn bullets, slide cycles ever slightly slower and hits are a bit higher inside 25-35 yards or so but it also helps with cadence as I get older; I cannot do splits under .20 sec all day long anymore.
147 shoot a bit 'softer' as well due to less powder in the round and bullet velocity being lower. 124 will shoot a little flatter than 147, I shoot subsonic loads.
Between 115 and 124 I'd pick 124 anytime.

124 or 115 in ball ammo is fine. I prefer non US ammo for training and stash, as it is generally cheaper and high quality, such as S&B or Monarch, or Fiocchi, "cartouches" 115 is faster, 124 had a bit more thump..........my CZ Scorpion Carbine likes 124s better, my pistols dont care.

For end or the world use, M1152 is pretty serious round, it is basically +p+ and then add maybe 5% to that. Flat nose, high penetration, but you sure feel it. New US military standard. With this stuff, you better make sure your gun is of a service grade, such as a Glock or XD or M&P, or a known well made gun with some military pedigree. Your old Jennings 9mm will die a quick death.

HPs, of course HSTs are king

147 are worthless IMO......not enough juice........if you want a heavier round, go with 45

124 gr Speer Lawman for range. Gives the same recoil as self defense ammo for better practice. Self defense ammo 124gr Speer Gold Dot primarily but also Hornady Critical Duty and Defense. I always run several boxes to ensure bullet profile causes no issues before I carry. I hope I never need it, but want to be sure everything works smoothly should the need arise.

My primary carry is FN Reflex with Holosun red dot optic. Garrett industry silent thunder appendix carry holster.

If you have a recoil sensitive female or a guy like me with an injured shooting hand, I like the Liberty Defense 50 grain aliuminum rounds and the Hornady 9mm Lite rounds. I won't debate anyone but I've seen first hand the Liberty Defense used on mammals and was impressed with it enough to trust my life with it. If you just cant trust a hyperfast and lightweight 9mm but need an easier to control round then the 9mm Lite is great. Almost meets FBI protocol specs which is fine because I don't plan on shooting through walls and barriers with it! The recoil and muzzle rise is noticeably less. You can really do follow up shots quickly with this round in micro and compact 9's. I'm working up a 100 grain handload and am going to handload me parctice rounds that duplicates this load, 100 grains at 1100 FPS.

All my 9mm pistols are German or Austrian and the europeans usually regulate the sights and pistol function based on 124 gr NATO standards. 99% of the time 115gr works just fine....but I prefer to stack the odds and use 124 gr for both training and carry ammo.
