What brand did you first have loyalty to and why?

None, really..price and convinience determine my oil choices.

That said, I've used a LOT of Pennzoil over the years...second would probably be GTX.

Havoline

First vehicle I used Havoline and my dad always used Havoline. The insides of engines we tore apart were always spotless.PLUS,it's cheap, cant go wrong!

Pennzoil. My father was a die hard even during the so called sludge years so it rubbed off on me as "the best oil". He still uses it.

I stick with American automobiles, preferring Ford and Motorcraft Parts/Oil above GM and Chrysler.

As for non-automotive, I love drinking that Apple koolaid! 

In the early to mid 60s I first used QS with 2K OCIs and it sludged my slant 6 engine pretty bad. Then tried Valvoline straight 20wt HD and it was much better. Finally I stated using M1 5-20 in 78(always with 10K OCIs) for cold start benifits when I lived in Maine. I found an excellant oil back then and have used it ever since except for a short time in my 85 Escort Wagon diesel. After changing the diesel to M1 10-30 I noticed the engine ran smother and quiter. With M1 oils, to this day, I have never had an oil related problem in an engine, trans, or PS pump, so I guess you could say I have loyality to M1. Anyone suprised??

Used Havoline or Pennzoil for years. Still use those for '98 F-150 with 5K-7K OIC's.

Started using Schaeffer's 9000 for '96 Avalon and continued for '06 Avalon for 10K OIC's.

Why Schaeffer's? Just to be different and got several very good UOA's.

My Dad used Valvoline in the white bottle. That was my oil of choice for many, many years. Then I moved over to Mobil 1 for a few years. After that I tried Amsoil, Redline, Royal Purple and Pennzoil Platinum. Currently using Amsoil and PP.

I was a Valvoline user for many years. And then i heard about Mobil 1 in the late 80s or some time there abouts. I made the switch and used it for 15 years or so. Then it was Redline for another 10 years Ha Ha. Now I have been using QSUD because it's cheap and does the job.

Valvoline for oil always, even growing up.
Although for me a loyalty just means I like their stuff and recommend it. I still see good in other things and do not always end up with brands I like, because something else could be as good or better.

I used to always say Mopar or no car but for a while they made absolutely zero that I wanted to drive.

I bought my first car with my own money in the early 90's and started changing my own oil. I started using Castrol because they had a big ad campaign at the time about being specially formulated for small engines.

After a few years I started using Quaker. Don't really know why I switched but it served me well.

Then about 10 years ago I started becoming really interested in looking at specs and my opinion at the time was Valvoline and Havoline were top notch. I went with Havoline because it was cheaper and I really, really liked it. But then the Walmarts in my area stopped carrying Havoline and at the auto parts store it was more expensive than the Valvoline was at Walmart. So I started using Valvoline.

I bought a new car in 2012, my first since 1999, and decided I wanted to try synthetics. I've been using Synpower but I really also want to try Mobil 1.

I guess you could say my brand loyalty kind of goes in streaks!

Mobil One. early 80's, with a new car I drove 30k per year. In those days conscientious people changed their oil every 3,000 miles. I wanted to extend that to 6,000. The car did not even break in until 30,000 miles had gone past. It just ran and ran and ran, without skipping a beat. It seemed like the fountain of youth for cars. That car was like two cars, and the money I saved was the downpayment on my first house. It went to 236K before losing an argument with a cow.

It made a believer out of me, but times change. Reading this site has convinced me that a 5k change will absolutely positively be fine. For 95% of us, 7K plus is just fine.

I need to pay more attention to fuel quality. Back then no one paid any attention to that. You just went to whichever station was cheapest by two cents.

By the way, the Ford manual says in so many words that we all need to quit obsessing over OCI and start paying attention to fuel quality, so its not just my imagination.

Not whatsoever. But if it ain't broke......
It's actually your experience that has brought me to the point of using the AFE in my hemi. I figure your engines haven't dissolved yet and the cold flow properties are tough to beat.

Mobil 1. I have used it since about 1985. I have strayed once and tried Pennzoil Platinum a few years ago but that was only 1 oil change and back to Mobil 1. I even use it in the lawn mowers.

For cars I work on I will use Mobil 1 or Mobil 5000 depending on if the customer wants Syn or conventional. I do use Redline in my Twin Cam Harley, however.
