So, was wondering this today. What would you folks say is your "cheap/budget oil?" I would have to say ST conventional and MS5K is mine.

My budget fluid of any kind is when I can buy with dirt cheap on sale and/or with rebate.

There are oil on sale all the time from one chain or another.

I bought 5 cases(30 quarts) Pennzoil HM from Amazon for $10.xx a case.

Less than $2/qt Pennzoil of any type is a good buy in my book.

I wouldn't consider it a 'budget' oil but QSUD. If nobody's running a rebate, it's always $21.97 at Wally World. Quality stuff at a great value.

My budget oil is every winter when Auto Zone has their clearance, usually $1 per quart. This last year was $3 per quart so I stocked up on some. I have no need to pay sticker price for oil. It's a lot better for me to have a reasonably sized stash of good cheap oil.

Budget oils are any of the top synthetics I can buy for $2 per quart (or less) during the year. Right now those budget oils include M1, Pennz Plat, Pennz Ultra, and QSUD. For the 0-50c difference per quart, I'll take the top synthetics. I bought 70 quarts worth last year. So far this year 20 qts.

Yeah, Autozone $2 synthetic was a pretty good deal. Those $1 oils were synthetic blends. I guess the days of free oil are gone, but maybe they'll come back now that oil is way down. Mobil 1 with the $12 rebate was also pretty good, around $10.88 for a 5 quart jug after rebate. There's also black friday coming up at PepBoys. They usually have $20 synthetic with a free filter. December isn't that far away, I wonder what Autozone will have this year.

Formula Shell is a very good option for me.. For a full synthetic it Havoline Pro DS and or Quaker State Ultimate Durability. HPDS at AAP for 3.99 a quart is pretty decent.

Back a bit Castrol Edge was my good oil and GTX was my budget oil. Now days I more follow that sales and specials, to get any good name brand with good specs at a decent price.

In Australia, the best place to buy a name brand oil at a good everyday price is KMart.
- Shell Helix HX5 15W-40 mineral oil ( API SN, ACEA A3/B3).
- Shell Helix HX7 10W-40 semi-synthetic oil (SN, A3/B4, MB 229.3, VW 502/505)

These two oils are priced so well everyday at KMart, they often beat an Auto store having a sale.

In Oz, KMart and Shell oil will take care of a family on a budget.

Rural King 5w30 at $1.79 per quart with no rebates and made by Warren. Plus a different oil that hasn't been mentioned yet on this thread.
