What are you working on today?

Reinstalled the freshly rebuilt 4L60 into the 95 Chevrolet Silverado today. It took 12 quarts of fluid to get it full. Ran out fine on the test drive. Customer picked it up this afternoon. The Cutlass is being picked up tomorrow morning and that customer is leaving a 1977 Pontiac Firebird with me for rear brake work.

Oil change, tire rotation, brake inspection and check over a bunch of piddly stuff on a 99 Jeep Cherokee. Needs lots of time and a little money put into it, pretty good overall for its age though.

2011 ISL Cummins 8.9L 450 hp. Came on the hook locked up, 2 gallons of coolant in oil pan and hydrolocked. Cavitation erosion put a hole in a liner, and counterbore is completely eroded. Going to have to find another block. This one is going to be expensive. 16,000 hours or so on the clock.

1.) Oil and filter change on a 2017 Golf. First time doing a VW with the plastic drain plug.

2.) After work I came home to continue investigating a plumbing problem. Over 2 years ago, I had feces and other bodily fluids excrete from the floor drain in my basement, also flooding the immediate area, well, IT'S BACK! I figured out that as long as I don't flush the toilet in the master ensuite, it's fine, otherwise it looks like Regan MacNeil is hiding under the floor drain cover. If my diagnosis is correct, snaking the floor drain should be the cure.

Rear brake shoes, wheel cylinders, two brake springs, and an oil change

1989 Chevrolet S10
Looked it over, needs front brakes overhauled, front wheel bearings repacked, and an inner tie rod on the passenger side. Parts ordered, will be fixing it tomorrow

Mowed the property this afternoon also.

450hp out of 9L is kinda crazy, sure you can juice the same figures out of a 6.0-7.3L PSD or a 6.6L Duramax or B5.9/6.7. Sounds like cooling system neglect led to block/liner failure?

It seems that the wrong coolant had been used for some time (not knowingly). The coolant had been changed out more than once over the years, mostly from component failures. The coolant used was a NAPS free OAT coolant and should have been a NOAT or ZEREX ELC, not nitrate free. The nitrates do a better job of protecting the liners.

This is a fire apparatus application engine.

Did the work on the 89 S10 today. Customer left with it about an hour ago. Supposed to be bringing me a 1972 Ford F250 to work on next week.

2011 2.4 Sonata w/102k was brought to me, I was conscripted to install already purchased Monroe quick struts, and I had to get the sway bar links
Turns out the OG struts aren't leaking, and they're fine

Passenger side sway bar link was previously replaced with an inferior aftermarket parts, which was also too short
The drivers side has rust, and a Hyundai logo, I believe it's factory
I ordered both sets of Delphi part numbers to cover myself, turns out 2/4 were returns in the wrong box
So I only got 1 good out of 4
Did fix the noise tho 👍
I did not install the provided quick struts, I didn't want to
I'll have it back next week to change the drivers side link when RockAuto ships the correct part
I wheezed on behalf of the engine and cabin filters

Obligatory Hyundai brake light bulb replacement, washer fluid, air up tires

The dome light switch is flaky, and the rearview mirror is loose

To eBay!

And an odd idle/throttle response issue
That's been lingering since it got a short block 5 years ago 😳

I just ordered some new plugs for it
$14+ each for the proper NGKs 😭

Replaced a switch on an electric range that only had off and full blast.

Freed up some power window motors and lubed the regulators on a 99 F150. The guy only wants to do them one at a time. So I’ll order the driver and wait till the passenger side fails again, hopefully it’s before it comes back for me to replace the driver side 🤣. Also removed and repainted the dash bezels as the factory paint was starting to chip away.

Going to look at a dryer that doesn’t heat up today. Seems like I’ve been working on as many appliances as cars lately.
