What are you working on today?

Can you just shorten the rod a little with abrasive of your choice?

That was my first thought but I couldn't risk messing that up because it was literally the last replacement part available locally on a weekend. I decided to back the nuts off the master cylinder mounting studs turn by turn until the pedal travel and feedback were fine, and then later I would make my own "spacers" for the studs once I have the measurements exact. This reman is inferior to the original because I could at least adjust the factory pushrod.

2006 F250 4x4, 3V 5.4L/5R110, Engine is toast......Took a 36" Breaker on the crank bolt to get to the torque converter nuts.
Customer is supplying a remanufactured engine from Autozone.....What could possibly go wrong??

Sad thing is, This truck has wreaking yard engine installed in it now....So this will be at least engine number 3.
The "Yard" engine has the wrong Timing Cover for this application, PS Pump only had the 2 rear bolts installed, Though the AZ reman has the correct one.
Of coarse whomever installed the "Yard" engine did it with the Cab On & the Trans Harness was laying on the Exhaust Manifold. I see this quite a bit on Ford Trucks with replacement engines, If one wants to do this Cab on, That's your decision.....But secure the trans harness back before you ship it!

Cline- the view from your patio is incredible. Where is that?

this is a lot of work for an AZ reman… roll the dice… I hope the customer doesn’t fuss if the engine pops and he’s got to pay labor to do the warranty. otoh, glad to see someone keeping a solid 3/4 ton on the road rather than throwing it away. respect for that.

Directly north of Downtown Fort Worth, On top on the North Trinity River Bluff overlooking downtown & cultural district.

Autozone pays labor if the engine goes down, Ford has no ETA on 3V 5.4L remans at the moment. Other than some bed side damage from a blowout....This truck's in decent shape.

It's also getting new Ford Cab Mounts, Which I insist on anytime I do a Cab-Off on a Super Duty because the customer WILL complain about noise over rough terrain/bumps even though it was already making noise.

2001 Pontiac Grand Prix with a 3800 V6

Replaced the heater hose bypass tubes. The plastic ones were both broke, replaced them with aluminum ones.

2009 Buick Lucerne

Replaced the thermostat

Tomorrow I'm supposed to have a 2015 Kia Soul coming for brake work and an oil change.

Programmed a new TCM in a 2007 Silverado Classic LBZ/Allison 1000.
Reset Fuel Composition value on a 2009 Tahoe Flex Fuel 5.3L/6L80E to correct rich DTC's & fuel trims.
A/C Compressor on a 2017 Hyundai Santa-Fe with a 2.4L.....Had a brand new engine ;)

Got back on the '06 F250, Engine is in the chassis.

Did a little work on the GT’s recently. On the Craftsman GT5000 I drained and refilled the manual transmission fluid (6 speed high / low), was a walk in the park with both a drain plug AND fill plug that are easily accessible without removing a thing 🎉 . Refilled with 30 WT 3 qts total. 60 some total hours but years of idle time on unit. The new fluid was definitely needed in this this unit as the old fluid looked very thin with a dark color and foam going on..

On the cub 1554 with Hydromatic has 224 total hours but again years idle time. Transmission was making A lot of noise and was very slow. There is also a drain plug and a fill plug, BUT you have to remove the transmission to get to them 🤨. It took a couple good hours to remove the hydromatic out of the machine because of springs and linkages. Once removed I drained from the top and bottom fill/drain ports. Removed 1.7 qts of SHOT fluid. It was completely pitch black/gray. Once drained I added 2 qts of synthetic blend 20w50 hydro fluid, purged air in system and reinstalled. The transmission is silky smooth has full power back and no sounds. 🎊

2015 Kia Soul

Turned front and rear rotors, and replaced front and rear brake pads. Also changed the oil.

I don't think the 72 F-250 is coming. Was supposed to be dropped off this morning and I've not seen it or heard from the owner.

A/C hose (Discharge) on a 2013 Ford Explorer 3.5L N/A.
#2 Ignition Coil & all 6 Spark Plugs on a 2007 Lexus RX350.
2009 Dodge Charger 5.7L/NAG-1, PCM has a bad #2 Injector driver but set electrical fault DTC's for all 8. Injector #2 dead shorted, Customer had installed some cheap injectors off Amazon. 8 new Bosch Injectors & a Used PCM that I set-up with my Autel Elite fixed it right up.

Got back on the F250, Had to work late....But it seems I'll never get it done if I don't.
Engine dressed out, Cab back on with new mounts & aligned, Left side of engine bay completed except the fresh air duct, Fan on.....I'll get it finished tomorrow even if I got to work late again.

*Had to find a PS Pump bolt.
*Got the Transmission Harness secured correctly before putting the cab back on.
*Need more Ford Teflon P/S Seals.....Had one left, Which was enough but I don't like running low on those!

Dealt with fix a flat. Customer requests flat tire repair. I went to the parking lot and I’m like yeah this is not fixable the whole sidewall of one section was gone because it was curbed pretty hard. Customer was angry had to pay for new tire and and TPMS sensor because the old one was done for with all the fix a flat in it. He said I have no idea why the fix a flat didn’t work I thought it hardened and patched the tire. I missed the Snap-on truck because our new shop manager won’t let us go to the truck. I was heading out there and he come running after me asking where I thought I was going. I’m talking to big boss I’m not putting up with this guy he stands over me too much as well. I’m like just because I’m young doesn’t mean I need someone over top of me every 5 seconds. He comes and sits on my stool next to my toolbox. It drives me up the wall. Something has to be done about this. The only advantage is I didn’t spend any money today. My back and legs are killing me. I’m also not getting to do a lot of franchise work either. I don’t want to see another Dodge or another tire after today, seriously. Haha. My back started killing me after lifting two of those 2500 Ram tires. And I hate doing tires so that’s why I don’t want to see another one. And I only know how to use one of the tire machines the other one I have no idea how to use so I have to wait for the other one to be available. No one will use the other one so I have no one to show me. But all in all it’s all chaos now. I gave it a week and I’m done if the issue is not addressed within a few weeks. Sorry rant over but that’s what I done today mostly mess with tires.

I worked in a big shop for 10 years. I feel your pain.....stay away from the Snap-Off truck though....

I hated tire season too. I had back surgery at 33. I no longer wrench on other people's stuff. I'm self employed now and have my own electrical business (what I went to college for).

I like working at different job sites and being the big boss!

Couple from the past few days: Had an '03 Caravan towed in as a no start. Customer drove to the grocery store just fine, and came back to a no crank situation out of nowhere. I had B+ voltage at the starter, but no voltage on the S terminal when the key was turned to crank. Also, I had no CEL with ignition on nor could I communicate with the PCM.

I checked for both 5v and 8v reference at the MAP sensor and CAM sensor, respectively, and found neither. Next, I checked for continuity between the PCM connector and said sensors, which tested good. Cutting both REF wires at the PCM revealed no output on either, indicating a dead PCM. Being a base model van, it wasn't equipped with Sentry Key which allowed me to simply source a used PCM and plug it in. No programming, no fuss.

Today I had the pleasure of performing a valve cover gasket/tune up job on an '05 Infiniti FX35. What fun. I've never enjoyed working on Nissan products, and this was no different. 5.5 hours of bracket removal, wire harness relocation, and cooling system servicing. Not to mention, the customer declined replacing the covers themselves, which wouldn't usually be necessary aside from the fact that Nissan decided to mold the spark plug seals INTO the covers, rendering them one time use. In this case, the seals were rock hard. Oh well, live and learn.

Putting those two aside, my favorite repair saga lately has been a 2017 GMC Savanna that got towed to the shop as a theft attempt. Steering column destroyed, left looking as if the would-be thieves more or less took pleasure in damaging any and all interior trim they could when their attempt failed.

The column is NLA from GM, and it took no less than 6 attempts with various scrap yards to finally find a serviceable column. Up until then, each one I received was damaged in some way: Gutted, hacked, crashed, you name it. I actually had one unit delivered with a blown airbag and the collapsible tabs zip tied to the housing....

I was finally able to piece together a good column from several of the used parts I had. Funny thing... the van in question is a basic cargo van with no options, whereas the column and steering wheel I ultimately installed is leather wrapped, cruise control equipped, and has audio control. All of which work now, without any change to the van itself.

Freightliner company flatbed 'no trans' warning popped up, threw codes bh33 and spn 2003 for no TCM communication. Trying to cover the bases by checking battery connections and chassis grounds today. Tomorrow pt2 will be moving onto continuity and voltage checks, probing wires and fuses.
