What are you eating right now?

Red Lentil and Vegetable Soup with carrot, leek, celery, minced serrano, garlic, dried roasted garlic, parnip, gold potato, chunky zucchini, green cabbage, Reggiano rind, fresh ground Kashmiri and chipotle peppers cooked in a light, homemade brown chicken stock. I'll enjoy a little for dinner tonight (sprinkled with some parseley) and the rest will be stored for later in the week.

I'm seeing yellow. No turmeric? No curry? Looks awesome, by the way. :)

But what’s the long term outlook just back to the same old same old what do you actually gain is my question if nothing is changed long term. Is it the cool next trendy thing to do and that’s it.
Having some pain issues related to inflammation. supposed to be a healing process for the body, burning off rogue cells etc.
I often go 18-24 hours without eating from noon until next morning

Good point. Fasting decreases inflammation through a stress response that reduces the migration of monocytes (a type of white blood cell) from the bone marrow into the bloodstream. There is a strong association between monocyte count and glucose and protein levels in the diet. Prolonged fasting eliminates old or defective undesdirable white blood cells (and other tissue cells) via autophagy.

I notice you speak in past tense. I have an idea of what's going on.

When you get up and groan that's sort of normal. When you sit down and groan you better get cracking.

Someone I know (not me!) wears still the same itsy bitsy teenie weenie yellow polka dot bikini but really should not do so! Isn't that right @Jdeere562?

The widely held belief or rather convenient excuse that a person's metabolism slows naturally down with age because of age is not true. What is true is that as we age many of use become more sedentary which slows our metabolism down. Also with increasing age nutritional requirements change and this should be addressed.
A lot of my health problems are due to back pain. I have been for multiple MRI, Bone scan, & seen a surgeon
MRI report reads T11-L5 -multiple disc bulges, Moderate to severe disc disease, disc osteophyte complex bulges.

The area that's bothering me is L5-S1 where there is severe Bilateral (both sides) neural foraminal stenosis, & compression of the exiting L5 Nerve roots. I get sharp shooting pains and sciatica down my leg that can't seem to ease up.

Surgeon says they can't guarantee successful surgery, & with the degenerative disc disease if they were to immobilize the joint it would just cause more stress to the levels above.

All of this comes with degenerative arthritis and pain. The drugs for pain are probably not helping, & just don't have the energy to do it, but if you try to rest too much just makes things more stiff. I can only do so much.
I think the pain & inflammation is also contributing to my slightly elevated above normal PSA
I was reading that the autophagy process was supposed to help the body self repair. Getting desperate to try anything some days.

I went about 44 hours. Had a boiled egg, & some rice. I think I could have made it though the night, but back to work tomorrow, and didn't want to wake hungry

Reducing inflammation is always a good idea. Whether inflammation other than inflammation of the prostate may cause a spike in PSA levels I do not know.

Not a suggestion or even a recommendation, but an inversion table, very gently applied helped me a good bit with my L5-S1 herniation. I did not use it when I was highly affected, only later during a more chronic phase.

I made a beef Stroganoff-filled loaf smothered in cheese and baked. I used porcini in the filling and the dough was pizza dough with mixed-in herbs. Not the most healthy thing. Terribly romantic lighting.

You live in LA (area). You have access to a lot more foods than I do.

Buy the -2024 (25?) Milk Street Cookbook. Really easy, everything in the book.
Lots of great options, just across the border in Vancouver. One of the best "foodie" cities in the world.

Crumpet with blueberry jam, no butter and a glass of V8 breakfast juice cut with water. Still on the very low fat diet until after the surgery.
