What are you eating right now?

Hotel has two restaurants. After yesterday's fail of ordering a omelette with bacon, ham, and cheese, but the cook forgot the cheese, bacon, and ham, decided to try the other restaurant.

I asked is they made omelettes at this restaurant. Server looked at me confused. I said a bacon, egg, and cheese omelette well done..server seemed a bit flustered at my request.

Server returned five minutes later with a plate of sliced almonds......... I had to explain what ordered, omelet just showed up.

Daughter just stopped by and brought an unexpected meal. Very welcome surprise. Guess her and Hubby had
a pork butt in the smoker since wee hours of the morning.

Pulled pork sandwiches. baked beans and coleslaw. Threw in a bag of good company. Nice to see they remember
the old man now and then.:p

Will terrorize the ice cream in a bit.;)
 
Pasta Saragolla Rigatoncini for lunch today (link).

This was the first time I made this pasta, and "I'll be back." While not as heavily wheat-flavored as the whole wheat pastas I've had, it has a deeper, more earthy flavor than a standard pasta, such as a typical Rustichella d'Abruzzo.

I made a variation on a broccoli sauce that I've made before. I cooked up some small-diced smoked pancetta (Pablo wanted to see some pork in my meals) in a small amount of Calabrian chili oil, including some ground peppers, and a bit of a friend's Rancho Milagro EVOO, locally grown in a nearby town. A very fresh and flavorful bottling. The pasta was cooked in the water used to cook the broccoli. The dish was topped with a one year old Pecorino Romano.

A little bonus was that the pancetta pieces would work themselves into the pasta tubes, adding a little surprise with each bite. And since the broccoli was not completely smooth, sometimes a piece of broccoli would find its way inside as well.

This is a great pasta, but not for everyone or for even most dishes. But when everything comes together, this pasta and the simple, quick meal it made, is a delight.

We took some flat iron steaks and soaked them in Lime flavored beer. The Modelo lime beer is salty and terrible but I have no problem using it to tenderize meat along with adding some standard seasoning. After 2 to 3 hours I put them in our Masterbuilt smoker. So I had steak with a side of beagle harassing me verbally to share with her.
