What are you doing right now?

I’m currently watching my dog living his best life ❤️

Got done pushing snow, ran trash to the transfer station. Not sure on the rest of the day. Should do some work for work, didn’t get much done yesterday, the stress of surviving a round of layoffs caught up with me and it was a lousy week. Need to go look good and hope for the best—and start shopping.

Just chilling waiting on parents to get up. I’m watching The Bob Newhart Show my coworkers got me hooked on it lol. I think I’m going to start buying a lot more TV series on DVD now especially ones like this that aren’t on streaming anymore really or only on pay per view or whatever.

Since I am staying in Niagara on the Lake for a month I couldn’t resist going out for a drive on one of my favorite scenic roads, the Niagara Parkway. It runs along the Niagara River and has a lot of beautiful homes. Fun fact: when Niagara Falls was first “born” 12,500 years ago it was actually located right at the end of this town, in Queenston Heights (that was also where General Issac Brock was killed during the War of 1812). When the glaciers melted after the last ice age they formed the Great Lakes and the Niagara Escarpment, and the river flows over the escarpment, thus creating the Falls. In these 12,500 years, Niagara Falls has eroded up the river by 7 miles!! Experts estimate that they will erode all the way up to Lake Erie in about 50,000 years and then at that point they will be gone and Lake Erie will become a river instead of a lake.

I wonder if they'll intervene at some point and manually push it back out? They are able to divert it entirely (which they have done a few times) to give access to it, so it's certainly quite possible to work some man-made intervention on it to undo some of the moving back that it has done.

They have only diverted the water going to the American Falls, that happened for a few months back in 1969 in order to do a geological study on the boulders below, to see if they should be removed (in the end they determined that they were better off being left there). The Horseshoe Falls has never had the flow completely shut off manually (in 1848 an ice jam at the top of the river did cause the flow to stop for 30 hours though)

But it is possible for them to try something if they wanted to. They have reshaped the Horseshoe Falls in the Table Rock area, as well as when they built Terrapin Point on the US end of those falls, it took away a few hundred feet from them.

Because of the water diversion dam that has been in place since the 1950s, they have been controlling the amount of water going over the Falls. They allow for a higher flow rate from about 8am to 11pm from April to November. In the evening during that time period approximately half of the water flow is diverted. And at all times from November to April they are diverting about that much. You can see the difference if you go there a lot (like me), you can especially see it in the water level of the river above and below the falls, as well as downstream at the Whirlpool (which actually switches from clockwise to counter clockwise depending on if it’s at a high flow rate or low flow rate)

Before they started diverting the water so much, the Horsehoe Falls would erode by 3-4 feet per year. Now it’s only about an inch or less per year.

Yeah, the daytime flows are higher for the appearance of the falls, while hydro-electric diversion gets priority after hours.

Yes, I'm thinking of the 1969 shutdown of the US side. There's enough diversion capacity IIRC to be able to divert the works if they wanted to, which would allow for them to do work if it was decided that it would be done.

It would be in their best interest to do something, even though 50,000 years is a long way off. But even if the Falls were just one mile away from where they are now that would have an impact on the hotels and restaurants and attractions in the area. Approximately 14 million people visited there last year, from 168 different countries!

Also depends on how long we plan on generating electricity from them. The intakes for Beck I/II and Moses are closer than a mile ;) (Beck ones circled)

That’s true! Once the Falls go past there it would be a problem. I’m constantly amazed at the vast amount of work that went into building those tunnels for carrying the water for electricity production, especially knowing how long ago they were built.

Yeah, it's crazy! I've posted pics of some of the old construction and the older plants there on here a few years back.

We are heading to Cracker Barrel for dinner. Not my favorite place but it’s free for me lol. Also just scrolling through the dating sites seeing if I got any messages. I’m trying so hard to find a girlfriend lol. Sometime in the next few months I’d be very happy if I found a girlfriend. I never knew how hard it was. I just move to quickly and it scares them away plus I can’t build the confidence or courage to talk to them in person. But I’m still trying to find one now that I realize what I need to work on plus I’m lonely and would be a lot more happy with a girl in my life lol. I’ve been saving up money too so I can tell them I’ve got money lol. Back on topic when I get home I’m going to relax and watch TV my knee is killing me so I want to rest it.

Sitting in a cold room for new hire orientation after getting hired to a new trucking company. Soo much onboarding stuff. I passed the road test let me on the road already.

Any friends that can set you up on blind date(s) ?

Church ?

Be friendly to women when you are out and about at Piggly Wiggly.

*** Off Topic ***
When I was working in a hospital I remember one nurse telling me she was divorced.
We were friends and always talked minor chit chat. Very nice woman.

She always had a habit of telling me about her EX husband (hint, hint) and was very friendly to me.

I was married so no hanky panky….. but women are always looking for a quality guy.

What are your interests?
Then join a club in one or more of your interests?
That way you get out, and meet people who have a common interest with you.
Could be walking, volleyball, geocaching, photography, dancing, cooking, painting, dragon boating, biking, furniture making, hang gliding, kayaking, beer making, doggie play time, drone flying, skiing, water polo, swimming, i mean anything at all.
So ask yourself what are your interests.
And ditch your parents when going out to meet women, go alone, or with friends.
You may have the nicest parents in the world, but no chick wants to meet them on date 1, or even date 4.
Meeting the parents is more like a date 10 or 20 thing.
Don't even try to kiss her on date 1, but don't wait longer than date 3 or she sees you as friendzoned.
Pay her a sincere compliment, nothing cheesy, but don't be a suck up either. Pick her up, open the car door, you pay on date 1 to, but don't do anything expensive, maybe bowling, mini golf, a plate of nachos you share, go for a walk. Touch her to make a connection, but don't grope or grab, be a gentleman. Its good to say touch her shoulder when talking for say 3 to 5 seconds, it makes a good connection. Don't grab her hand though and hang onto it for 5 minutes, that's bad. Make her laugh, be funny, keep convo light, don't be like ' hey babe what's your take on 0w16 vs 10w50'? Ask her questions, not interrogation questions, just easy questions, 'what color are your eyes', 'favorite tv show', 'best friend's name', ' have any pets', 'where do you want to vacation someday'. Dress clean, but casual. Freshly showered, but no cologne, mouth wash twice minimum. Don't eat anything that makes your breath stink. When you drop her off you sit in your car and watch her until she is safely inside, then drive away.
Teasing is good, if not too much, and not a sore spot.
If she say trips over the curb for example...its okay to say something like 'Bad curb' and shake your finger at it. Don't say ' your clumsier than my alcoholic aunt'. Never ever try to get a girl drunk, be a gentleman.
