What are you doing right now?

We did D.C. the week between Christmas and New Year 1982, about 9 days total. We spent two full days at the Smithsonian and could have done a whole week easily. Lots of other great stuff too. We did the same, walked a few blocks from our hotel to the last metro stop and rode in/out. It was great, but cold. Never liked Detroit and hated Atlanta when I was driving. I might feel a little safer in Milwaukee, not sure I'd feel safe in any of them.

FWIW, DC is crazy but the last time we went, we stayed well outside of DC and took the train in. No driving involved, get dropped off close to whatever we wanted to see.

I bring this up as DC has a number of free museums which might be worth seeing. I enjoyed seeing the free stuff, and that can free up money to see other things.

There's an air and space museum that I recall being easy to get to and from on the outskirts. We hit that up on our first day, then went to the campground we were staying at, and the rest of our trip we'd just drive the 15 minutes or so to the outermost hub, park, ride the train in. Very low key and easy. Maybe hit up stuff outside the city on the way in/out, or if it's a week long stay, you could alternate days in and out of the city.

We do the same thing when we go down to NYC, park at Southeast Train Station and ride down. None of the traffic (well plenty in CT). I always get a kick out of passing through Valhalla. :)
We went to DC and Baltimore last year and it was awesome. We were at the game that our team threw a no hitter against the Nationals which was spectacular. We didn’t do much in DC because there was some riots at the time but we made it out safely. Baltimore we done tons of stuff though like seen the Museum of Industry, Orioles game, good Chinese restaurant all kinds of stuff. Also done DC in 2008 as well it was awesome. I have a picture of me at the Capitol Building and several other monuments there. I also saw someone fall on the Lincoln Memorial and crack their head open which was not pleasant lol. We done the Air&Space museum in 2009 it was absolutely spectacular.

My daughter’s first time at the Legend, Arapahoe Basin, CO.
I started my kids at more beginner friendly mountain, Monarch, before taking them to A-Basin, which is one of the highest and steepest mountain in North America. She did splendid!

Daughter is having her 18th birthday party; I'm electing to hide in the basement.

Wanted to mess around with an LM567 tone decoder for a while, and finally did so. Learned a couple of things that I'll probably never use but was fun anyhow. Not sure if I want to do a PCB layout with lessons learned, then order them, then forget about the project for another year or so before remembering "I was going to do something with that..."

It’s slow at work so I’m looking at vacation places and trying to get a week or two reserved at work for vacation before all the summer slots get taken. I’m looking at like Detroit or Milwaukee or possibly Cleveland or Atlanta or possibly St. Louis. Dad has said out of those that Detroit is surprisingly the easiest city to navigate in because it’s like a square but it’s also the most dangerous out of them. I’m happy to go to any of them but I’d prefer it not be in Ohio as I’ve been to Ohio so I hope he agrees to one of the other four this year but I’m happy either way. I already started saving for hotel and tickets. And I’m not going to let them talk me out of a hotel this year lol. I’ve been to Missouri too but it was years ago I’d like to go again.

I would sooo love to tour the bad parts of Detroit.

No BULL I’d hire an off duty Detroit police officer to give me 2 day tour of city.

Call me crazy but that’s the only way I would go to Detroit, same for East Cleveland.
Very very bad city. Stay out !!!!

I know a few people who have made it out alive lol. I’d love to catch a Tigers game not that I like the Tigers but it’s part of my goal to go to every MLB park.

Nice short skis for a beginner. I remember them giving me skis that were as long as I was tall and getting a handle on those was a bear.

When I was in Seattle this past July I remembered you mentioned about wanting to visit every MLB parks and immediately thought of you when I passed the stadium a few times.

Seattle is definitely a place to visit in July - September when it’s still nice and sunny, weather great.

Very interesting place to visit. (y)

I’m looking at the weather for the winter ice and snow storm. Hopefully they will call off work on Monday so I don’t have to call in. No way I’m driving on ice. Other than that we are grocery shopping right now. Stores are packed and all the bread, milk, eggs and peanut butter and bottled water is gone lol. Going to watch a movie later. Will be my first movie of 2025 and it’s on DVD of course but haven’t decided which movie yet.

I want to go there but that would require at least 2 weeks off of work though which I’ve got the PTO for but they would never allow two consecutive weeks off.

We just left the Chinese buffet. It was ok. Now I feel bloated lol. I wasn’t really in the mood for that Chinese. I wanted takeout Chinese but it was ok. I was also surfing Reddit but have to take a break from that for a bit. My blood boils and boils more and more everyday on there.

My girlfriend went to an old pub in Niagara on the Lake that has a really cool history. It first opened in 1789 and then during the War of 1812 the Americans invaded this town and occupied it for 6 months. When they were forced back into the US by our troops, they burned this entire town to the ground, including the pub. It was rebuilt in 1815 and is still a very popular spot. It is even haunted by the ghost of a Canadian soldier who was killed in the basement during the War of 1812

So take your own car and go to the takeout place of your choice.
