What are you doing right now?

..Started testing 2mm pencil leads to see which grades I really need. I ran a little test...
Your post reminded me of my old mechanical pencils that I used professionally in the early-mid 90s. I still keep them in my pen cup at work but hardly ever use them. H lead in both.

Working. Well trying too lol. We are dead thankfully. Nobody thinks we are open probably because every other shop around is closed of course but we aren’t. We should be though. Oh well at least we are off tomorrow for paid holiday.

I'm eating out. Steak sandwich, coleslaw, and an Imperial Stout. The sun has set a while ago and I'm watching the last few boats coming into the harbor.

We are driving around town. And of course dad wants to go sit in a restaurant. I wanted Chinese food to be my last meal of 2024 lol. I’m also reading about the new generation that enters the world beginning tomorrow called Generation Beta. I’m early Gen Z thankfully lol. Excited to watch the ball drop. I’ve never missed a ball drop since the first one I remember watching in 2007 going into 2008. Except we had to watch the one in 2008-2009 on a computer because my dad broke the tv in November 08 because of something that happened and by 2009 we hadn’t gotten it replaced yet lol. I remember that because it was hilarious but I understood.

The neighboring riding arena held a new years eve cattle team penning event. The family and i went and watched our 16 year old compete. As usual it was a blast and there are a lot of great people in these parts.

Now the kids have some friends over and are watching a movie. The friend's father has some parts for my vintage sleds so some deals are being made.

Tomorrow we have some friends coming over for supper. Have a 5 pound round roast dry brining. It's going to be about -20c ambient and near -30 windchill but I am not working so some sledding will be happening.

Happy New Year!

I’m just chilling right now. We didn’t drink nothing last night which is fine we were tired but watched the ball drop and then crashed out. Day off today as paid holiday for me. We are going to the Ace Hardware stores 50% off any item sale today. Then making new years dinner and going to chill I suppose.

Put my son to use tearing apart old equipment, metal to the metal bin, plastic to trash and circuit boards I'll sneak into work for disposal.

Put up some shelves, only to find the boards are foot shorter than I care for. I'll replace those... some day.

Cleaning home office, would like to start the new year right.

I'm currently eating French fries because the Puerto Ricans are fresh out of plantains. Although, there's a big plantain standing in as a paperweight to keep the napkins from flying away.

"Hey, can you please fry this up for me?"

We are getting ready to go out to dinner. Hopefully McDonald’s or takeout Chinese or something because I don’t want to go in a restaurant to sit lol. Today at work didn’t do hardly anything. Ran out of work by lunch time so after lunch I was literally sitting in a chair with other techs in a circle talking and passing the time.

Trying to figure out my next move. One of the reasons I haven’t been participating, or even catching some threads and posts very often.
Everything is great with family, health and finances,…it’s just time for a change. I hate ruts.

It’s slow at work so I’m looking at vacation places and trying to get a week or two reserved at work for vacation before all the summer slots get taken. I’m looking at like Detroit or Milwaukee or possibly Cleveland or Atlanta or possibly St. Louis. Dad has said out of those that Detroit is surprisingly the easiest city to navigate in because it’s like a square but it’s also the most dangerous out of them. I’m happy to go to any of them but I’d prefer it not be in Ohio as I’ve been to Ohio so I hope he agrees to one of the other four this year but I’m happy either way. I already started saving for hotel and tickets. And I’m not going to let them talk me out of a hotel this year lol. I’ve been to Missouri too but it was years ago I’d like to go again.

FWIW, DC is crazy but the last time we went, we stayed well outside of DC and took the train in. No driving involved, get dropped off close to whatever we wanted to see.

I bring this up as DC has a number of free museums which might be worth seeing. I enjoyed seeing the free stuff, and that can free up money to see other things.

There's an air and space museum that I recall being easy to get to and from on the outskirts. We hit that up on our first day, then went to the campground we were staying at, and the rest of our trip we'd just drive the 15 minutes or so to the outermost hub, park, ride the train in. Very low key and easy. Maybe hit up stuff outside the city on the way in/out, or if it's a week long stay, you could alternate days in and out of the city.

We do the same thing when we go down to NYC, park at Southeast Train Station and ride down. None of the traffic (well plenty in CT). I always get a kick out of passing through Valhalla. :)
