Ok, so I just bought an '08 Mazdaspeed 3 to replace a gas guzzling Tahoe.

Hey, we're downsizing a bit!!!

Looking forward to that first oil change, are there any recommendations from the wizards here?

I was thinking of the first few oil changes being with BMW's 5w30 synthetic. It is used in the twin turbo 6 for 15k oil changes, in my mind it ought to be OK for Mazda's recommended 3,500 oci's. Later on I'll switch to GC.

Also, any recommendations for a trans oil?

Many thanks! Cheers!!

welcome to the wonderfull world of mazdaspeed. im planning on going synthetic 10-30 at my next oil change in a couple thousand miles. i have some havoline, penzoil and valvoline in this grade and hopefully it will give it a little more of a fuel dillution cushion. there are a couple of uoa's around on this motor. are you gonna do an early oil change, i did mine at 850 and then again at 3000 and now im at 4400.

UOAs are indicating that the BMW N54 engine thoroughly destroys BMW 5W-30, M1 0W-40, and GC in @1000 miles- primarily due to excessive fuel dilution. The good news is that the DISI 2.3 in the Mazdaspeed3 is not as hard on oil and a 5000 mile OCI with a good 5W-30 synthetic should suffice.

i wouldn't risk for long OCI for a turbocharged engine, and with direct injection as well

just follow the 3000miles and use some good synthetic oil like Amsoil

BMW's 5W-30 is a HTHS oil, see if that works well in ur engine
