Hey everyone,

I just picked up a 2020 M340i a few weeks back and would like to do the first oil change on it this weekend.

I’ve been searching the forums and am seeing conflicting recommendations for the oil type I should buy.

The manual recommends 0w20 or 0w30 LL-FE17+ oil, however some people on the forums are saying to use LL01 5w40 - so I’m a bit confused. Was planning to use Pennzoil platinum euro 5w40, but won’t if there’s a better option.

I own the car and plan to keep it long term. I live in Southern California. The car is stock and is mainly used for a short city drive commute and spirited weekend drives. My OCI will be 5k. 43k on the odometer currently.

Can someone recommend a good quality oil to use in my B58TU?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Pennzoil Platinum Euro L 5W-30 is LL-04. I would strongly consider that oil as well. It gives the benefits of higher viscosity and BMW approval in a lower SAPS oil.

Assuming you car does not have GPF, then the LL-01 oils should be ok to use as well.

If you want to stick with your manual recommendations strictly (LL01FE is the 0W-30):
BMW TPT 0W-30 or Motul Specific LL01FE 0W-30

I would personally deviate slightly and use M1 FS 0W-40.

I started a thread re my 230i (B46 engine) Should be somewhat applicable to your situation.

there have been other threads on the B series engines also.
