Decided try Pennzoil Ultra 5W-30 in my Titan. Just dumped the Royal Purple 5w-30 after 1400 miles (just had new performance cams installed last month and my mechanic put in RP, 2qts break in and 4.5 of 5W-30). He said to run the oil for 500 miles for the cams to wear in, but I went almost 1400 miles.

I Have Jim Wolf Cams, and Thorley long tube headers, but still on stock exhaust (saving up $$$ for that and a Super Chips programmer).

After filling up, I did notice that the idle is a little quieter, and very little dry start-up rattle. did my leak check and shut

Using a Napa gold 1356 for this run, and flipped a coin between that and a P-1 (both in my inventory, I get em on sale).

Truck sees towing a few times a month, 75% highway miles, and a track day every few months. Ambient temps in Cent. Fl right now is 95-98.

I figure she should be good for 7500 miles (6 mo for me).

Kind of funny though, 5 qt jug, $25, qts are almost 7 dollars (I need almost 8 qts, so bought 2 jugs...)

I have an extra capacity oil cooler, hence the extra quart.

Where did you find Ultra for $25? I went to walmart and it sells there for about $28-$29 and change for the jug. A few dollars difference I guess it's no big deal though.

Ok I checked it out. The PZ Ultra is now $25. Walmart must have rolled it back because it was moving slowly I believe.

Yep. A month ago, I had stopped by and it was still 28 a jug. Only problem for me is the Wally near me, does not have it. I have to drive across town to get it.

It should be worth it though. Anxious to try it in the Wife's Altima. That thing has start-up rattle, no matter what filter is on it. ST, NG, or PureOnes. Next month will tell. She is going 4K on PYB right now.

Dave

I am not gonna go head over heels with Ultra, but I think I should be able to get 6 mo-7500 out of it for a decent price. I have been running PP and a good filter for the last 2 intervals (except for the RP.) The PP has served me well, but now the price is down on the PU, I think I will use it for a while.

I hope to get more than 7.5k

Just took the truck out for a short spin. No major differences, but the idle is definitely quieter. I just hear the injector click, no timing chain noise or anything else out of the ordinary.

I am comfortable with PU. Tempted to pull a short OCI on Wife's Altima. That thing has one noisy QR25DE engine (CVT). Start-up rattle, and especially at mid throttle, between 20-50 MPH.

Not to be off topic but...........let's hear more about the cam swap

It's your post so please feel free, lol. Not a lot of people around here doing mods like that to a Nissan DOHC type truck and I'm intrigued. I'm a GM man no doubt but more so a truck guy and I'm impressed with the Titan's.

My good buddy and a heck of a mechanic did the JWT swap for me. Normally, I would do most engine repairs, but the 4 cam intimidated me.

HP gain is about 15-20, according to JWT's site. I noticed a big difference in passing retards that go 10 under the limit on a 2-lane, which is how I get home. Pulling a 5K trailer, I have noticed a little difference at cruise, but off-the-line, a big difference. I need to go dual exhaust, but am saving up for it. Great muffler shop near my workplace and will mandrel bend the pipes.

Stock, I was running a 15.5 at 87 in the 1/4. Now I am running a 15.3 at 89. Once I get the guys at Super Chips to tune me, I should knock off another .2 and gain another 3 mph. Super Chips is about 3 miles from my office and have a road dyno to test rwhp.

Before I go any more, I am trying to get new gears for the rear axle. Seems Dana went a little light on the gearing, and there have been failures.

Sweet! Thanks for sharing! Very interesting, I'm not sure what boggles my mind more, it running with a stock tune or that there are 4 cams! I had no idea. A re-tune will make a night and day difference. Glad to know there is good re-tunning support for Nissan's. I like where your head is...

it is best oil sopus makes which is why i tried it cuz i think they and mobil are best lube companies

The Titan is one of the fastest stock pickup trucks out there. My "track time" is 1/4 mile, not a circuit like SCCA. My hold back now is the exhaust and stock computer tune. Not bad though for a 5500 lb pickup running in 90+ degree Florida summer.

All those guys making fun of the track just don't get it. Might want to visit the strip. You'll see all kinds there. We ALL have fun!

WTG, Dave. Maybe the critics should pile in a couple thousand pounds of ballast to equal your weight and see what they run!

Just watch out for those Silverados. My bone stock 05 5.3 with nothing but an intake will cut a very low 15 even in the worst weather. But I don't weigh as much as you.

See ya at the strip!

Me too! A friend of mine just got back from the US and while he was there he picked me up three more 5 qt jugs of Ultra. I'm going to trade him my last 2 jugs of Pennzoil Platinum plus some cash (he's been buying up a lot of the $20 jugs of Platinum from our local Walmart as he does a lot of oil changes for his family and friends)
