It's pretty amazing how comfortable many of us are with annual oil changes these days.

Ten years ago I would never have dreamed I would be comfortable doing it!

We sure have come a long way...now if we could just convince the rest of the country to do the 1yr or 10,000 miles routine.

NEVER!!

I love changing oil and I would hate having to do only one change per year... I do think it is interesting that many of the usage and testing has shown how far you really can run on modern oils...

Sorry, you won't convince me to possibly void my warranty on my '08. I may go to 10K on my '05 truck that is out of warranty but not until I finish the 20 qts of oil I bought recently.

1 Stick to the owners' manual until the warranty is up.

2 In the past, infrequent oil changes lead to sludge problems. Please show a little more patience with those of us that had a bad experience in the past. I am hoping to end my every 3 months obsession by switching to Mobil 1.

But yes, it is mostly hidebound sticks in the mud. Very common in the auto care area. Look at how many are still running 10w-30 or 10W-40 oil and refusing to buy Ecore filters.

NEVER!!! 5k and NOTHING MORE!! I'm about to get up under my car this weekend to change while HOT

I am quite far from "green". I have Amsoil SSO in my car and I just reached the 5k mark in my OCI. You have no idea how hard it is for me not to change it. I'll probably let it go to 10k, but that's about it.

Good for you OldWolf!!! Of course 10 years ago most of the lubes would have struggled making 5K .... hence my use of synthetics all those years. I've now slid down slope to syn 'blends'..

Today's higher standards make it possible! And don't forget, for every oil change adds twice the crank case capacity to the mix. That which went in and that which came out... and now has to be re-cycled. Longer is "muy bueno!"

Keepin' it green, we are....

Cheers!

OldWolf, Good job, we all need to be good and better
stewards of this earth God has put us here to take
care of. I long for the day Americans can say to
the rest of the world...look at us, we're energy
self-sufficient and we're not giving you one
more penny of our money! Think geothermal, solar
and hydrogen baby. I feel better now, thanks
for listening.

I'm offended by the title of this thread. It's political in nature. Better contact the internet Nazis to have this thread shut down. LOL. Just kidding. I took heat for making some politcal comments in a seperate thread, and even though this topic is ralated to a political issue, I'm not offended, even though I disagree with this whole "going green" issue which robs hard working people like you and me from money due them.

Mark72, Don't look now but I know the difference between
a turd and a tootsie-roll and you just made it political.

don't think I've had a car that didn't consume too much oil to go on a long OCI. in 10K, I would have topped off so much it would be like I was doing shorter OCIs anyway.
my new car is getting 5K intervals while under warranty.

10k 1 year is the goal. I admit in the trip and grocery getter Ford Explorer I am getting there.
On the Jeep Wrangler, I am working towards a 4-5 month winter OCI with Conventional(it's garage kept and used for trips around towna couple of days a week) with a synthetic OCI for the sum of the year that has all the miles and offroading/expeditions.

I don't run longer OCI's with the intent of being "green".
But, I don't mind conservation with an economic foundation. If I can save money, protect better, and it just so happens to use less oil, so be it!

Although I won't get into how big of a scam today's "green" cliche is in our society, they would have a lot better time getting me on board if they allowed the economy to persuade an individual rather than government force. My extended OCI's are the perfect example, with no congressional mandate needed!

So, this is an argument against 10k OCI?

A-men! I ride my bicycle over 6000 miles a year and most of that is commuting. I jumped on the long OCI bandwagon. It required no legislation. Others I work with have started riding to work as well. Being green can be contagious. Get the government involved and it has the potential for backlash. You will always have a portion of the population who has a great concern for the environment, but to the masses they need encouragement, not punishment.
