So while moving the other day, I gathered my humble oil stash and found 3.8 quarts of Motorcraft, 0.4 quarts of PYB, and 0.4 quarts of Pennzoil Ultra, all are 5w-20, all are API SN, and all were purchased/opened within the last 4 months or more recent. Put these all together, and you end up with 4.6 quarts of a nice blend, which is just a hair over my car's oil capacity. Would I be safe doing a 5,000 mile OCI with this blend? Car (2007 Focus) only has 25,000 miles and burns no oil whatsoever.

It's the syn-blend Motorcraft 5w-20. The factory recommended OCI is 5,000 miles on the syn-blend Motorcraft, then in '08 onward the same motor started carrying a 7,500 mile recommended OCI on the same oil with the same oil filter and same oil capacity.

I'd say give it a go.

Save it for the off-chance that you experience oil consumption....or save it for the next OCI :P Granted, it won't be "much" but eh, better than wasting it.

IMO....Most likely, each of those partially filled quart bottles state that "it is compatable with mixed with conventional or synthetic oil". That tells you that SN and SM oils have met the requirement for their classification and it's okay to be mixed.

IMO....Mix away...I do it all the time.

Of course, that 4.6 quart figure is based on eyeballing it on the measuring lines on a 5 quart jug. Which, depending on the specific bottle and how it is shaped, may or may not be totally accurate at any given point on that line. So I'll just dump it all in the engine and call it a day. Amsoil's website actually says that 4.6 quarts IS the full capacity, whilst the owner's manual say's 4.5, as does every other source I've looked at.
