Ah, the Euro intrigue is found to be all smoke and no caviar for low end VAG products.
I am shocked, shocked!
I am shocked, shocked!
First educate me re: the magical sauceHow do you know it is D1G3?
I often have students like that: "can you explain me like I am in kindergarten."First educate me re: the magical sauce
Most of them used 5W40 VW502.00 well into VW508.00 era. When i had the Passat 2.0T, they used VW504 during my dealership free changes. I pointed it out once and they said they didn't have any. I was like, Oh, OK. But at least i wasn't lied to.
That’s weird. I’ve used up to a 50-grade in my EA888 and I’ve noticed nothing at all. The 1.4 must be a whole lot different. The 1.4 EA211 lays down like a coonhound in the summer sun with 5W40 in there.
I knew the moment I left the dealer lot something was way off.
You think VW would get suspicious with sooooo many engine failure claims under warranty from this one dealer, don't you ?It is pretty ridiculous. My bet? (guess and probably wrong): Dealer is just buying oil from low bidder.
OH, please, how do we know ANYTHING specific that the O.P hasn't revealed, isolated, working from a PC on a forum! We don't even know what model VW he is driving!I often have students like that: "can you explain me like I am in kindergarten."
Except you are an adult.
My question was how you know it is D1G3 not whether one is better than another one. As far as what we know, it could be Lucas Oil stabilizer.
The entitlement....
Maybe. My car was a MT. Professionally performing tune ups, rebuilds and performance mods for decades I am quite sensitive to performance and engine noise. - sure you are, lol! I admit I am losing the noise harmonics aspect capability now that I am approaching Beethoven level deafness. - amazing! That’s weird. I’ve used up to a 50-grade in my EA888 and I’ve noticed nothing at all. The 1.4 must be a whole lot different.
One would think the summer sun would help that 40 grade get up and move like a tick hound, at the very leastThat’s weird. I’ve used up to a 50-grade in my EA888 and I’ve noticed nothing at all. The 1.4 must be a whole lot different.
Finally you got to the point of my original question.OH, please, how do we know ANYTHING specific that the O.P hasn't revealed, isolated, working from a PC on a forum! We don't even know what model VW he is driving!
How do you know they "probably used VW 504.00/507.00 ..."

Typical BITOG bickering about nothing - I am out. It's coming on lunch time here, anyways.
Turbo no likey thick oilThe 1.4 EA211 lays down like a coonhound in the summer sun with 5W40 in there.

Turbo better protected with a 40-grade. Mine seems to likey it fine for over 100K so far.Turbo no likey thick oil
Data?Turbo better protected with a 40-grade. Mine seems to likey it fine for over 100K so far.
So you’re saying that a lower film thickness is beneficial to the turbocharger?Data?
I mean maybe some turbos
Nope. I am just saying beyond the actual thickness needed doesn’t buy much. Be the viscosity range in the SAE 30 or 40 range. So you’re saying that a lower film thickness is beneficial to the turbocharger?
That’s an honest question.
