Thought you might be interested. This is for Mobil 1

That's a bit thinner than most of the 20 weight tests I've seen.
Which 40 weight is it?
To me it looks like the w is cut off.
Both Mobil 1 FS 5W-40 and 0W-20 EP High Mileage
Yes Log. You just draw a straight line between 100C and 200C. Values should be accurate down to 0C (32F)

Al, thank you for this graph!

This is interesting to me in a place with cold winters - presuming the oil temperature lags the coolant temperature by a few minutes, during a typical drive in town during the winter, the 0W-20 would get no thinner (13.7 cSt) than a 5W-40 would at operating temperature in the summer.

Therefore, I would feel fine running a 0W-20 in winter, even if 5W-30 is called for.

That’s kinda been the going idea for awhile now… I’ve seriously thought about running a high HT/HS 5w20 in my EJ253 which calls for a 30 grade in our Midwest winters… which hover in highs in the mid-teens and lows in the negative single digits… combined with snow and idiots I’m never pushing it to its limits. I’d feel comfortable with the No VII 5/10w20 in it.

I thought so too, but was advised by the dealer to not to run a 0W-20 where a 5W-20 had been specified.

This was a 2009 Mazda 5 with a 2.3 litre DOHC.

I went full rebel and did it anyway. That was 11 years ago. The engine still runs flawlessly.

I usually run a 5W-30 spring and summer.
