Supertech 0w16 and 0w40 oils just started showing up at our local walmarts, this is the first time at least in my area to see these in person. Just thought I'd mention it in case someone was interested in these oil grades. On a side note at one store Mobil 0w8 was on clearance for $20 5 qt jug.

So it is true. I made a post about it a some days ago but it showed out of stock with no ability to ship or pickup. I now see it shows available for delivery but not in store/pickup.

I posted the mag1/warren highline pds on it. With a kv100 of 12.8 and an hths of 3.7 with a good noack of 9% I would say it's like the old M1 0w-40. The new m1 0w-40 has a higher kv100 and lower hths of 3.6 or maybe 3.5 when both were better before. At the $27 price I'd rather buy that over mobil or castrol if lspi isn't an issue.

Looked up the warren/mag1 pds of 0w-16 and it's 0w-16 alright, I'll post it here.

Looks vile just like all the other 0w-16's that aren't boutique petro-unicornium juice which even then I still wouldn't use. Nothing of hths and almost 15% noack but that's par for the course. I'd pass on this and any other 0w-8/12/16.

Just in case some don't know already you don't "need" to use 0w-8/16. Use 0/5w-30 all day if you want as opposed to 8/16 grade. These 0w-8/16 engines aren't made of glass and dealers don't uoa and never threaten warranty rejection if you don't have your receipts if the engine was full of oil and clean inside when they checked it.

A 40 with 3.5 seems extremely low, no?

After completing a full winter of real world testing, using 0w30 AFE in my D4S Rav4, City and Hwy mpg was just brutal as compared to spring and summer. I know all of the contributors to this worsened mpg that are at play in winter but oil temp /viscosity is the largest one. We experience severe winter in my region. Lots of short trips, but even on 5hr drives the oil just isn’t getting hot enough for hths to be a factor. I am ready to use 0w16/0w20 next winter with full confidence that it won’t harm a thing while saving a few bucks on gas.

Why not get a radiator-curtain/cover like the truckers do.
Should get your temps up faster and give you better aero(mpg).
I can't be bothered to run different winter and summer viscs.

Yes the real problem is the engine operating temperature. Thermodynamic efficiency goes down when the engine isn’t operating at a proper temperature. It’s not the oil, a thicker oil will heat up faster anyway. If his engine never reaches the design temperature then no oil will fix that problem.
