Since I was unsure of quality of these decided to chop one open. Looks ok, nitrile ADBV kinda sticky but very flexible or pliable.

Obviously no problem on the leaf spring. I think it looks pretty good for its age. Good pics & thanks for cutting. Sticky stuff perhaps old dried up glue?

The Fram "Double Guard", one of Fram's worst ideas. Someone at corporate must have said something like 'let's jump on the Slick 50 craze and soak orange can media with PTFE/Teflon'. Voila, the Double Guard. PTFE/Teflon has no place in an ICE! The DG been gone for quite a while now though.

Thanks for c&p.

Where did you buy this filter? Looks like 86th day of 2024, unless it's super old then it would be 86th day of 2014. The sticky thread in this forum shows how to read date codes. Leaf spring looks smooth, and should seal well on the fiber end cap.

Maybe the 86th day of 2004? Those Double Guards were in the early 2000’s, I haven’t seen them since probably 2004/2005. I always remembered seeing it said Teflon engine treatment was in the filter, and thinking something just didn’t seem right about that.

Think you're right ... 2004. At time 1:15 in this WCW video you can see the box copyright data of 2001.
