Good snowy morning folks. Decided not to risk this Endurance 3614 filter. Gonna use up my donaldsons white and then OG ULTRA’s 3614

Wide spacing I see; I’m not impressed with way FRAM has went also.

Enjoy the pictures.

Obviously not the best spacing, but at least the media is strong enough so shouldn't have any tearing issues.

Do the Donaldsons you use have a silicone ADBV? That is my one hang up with a lot of the Fleetguards, Donaldsons, and Baldwins. Some of them can be quite pricey depending on size, and with my climate a nitrile ADBV can lead to clacky start ups. Does it really matter? Maybe not, but doesn't give me the warm and fuzzy feeling especially for some of the prices they demand.

I believe the blue donaldsons have silicone; maybe someone here knows. I have a white Donaldson on my focus and it’s nitrile adbv. No start up issues in cold at all. I’m not worried one bit. I won’t be using grams anymore way their quality has took a major 💩

Looks like rust on the base plate and ridges/ruffles on the leaf spring. I really had high hopes for the Endurance line. I have an FE3614 on the shelf that I’m not going to use after seeing all the defects on these Endurance filters.

What I am missing here filter nerds? Have one of these in the queue for my son's Focus's next change.
Stamping of the leaf spring bypass valves have been subpar (visible dimples) and could potentially allow unfiltered oil through the mating surface between the metal end cap and bypass valve. The rust is self evident. Not the quality one would expect from a top tier filter at a top tier price point.

Someone has to find a way to do a flow/leakage test on these valves. I’d run that thing if I had it around. I’m taking the view that high flow/lubrication is just as important as filtration efficiency. The more I see filters taken apart, the more I think that there is always a small amount of leakage or suboptimal design with respect to the pressure relief valve. At 7 to 9 gallons per minute being filtered out, a particle will make a pass or two through the system before it does eventually hit the filter media, and if it’s synthetic media, it will hopefully lodge instead of just sit on the surface and blow through the next time the valve opens. The stuff that really causes damage (2 to 10 microns) still is flowing anyway.

The way to fix this design is to take the extra step of applying a ring flexible heat resistant glue between the leave spring valve and the metal filter end cap.

I don't get it either. The surface rust is on the dirty side of the filter and *if* the leaf spring lets oil bypass the media it will be minimal.

Reasons to avoid buying? Maybe, I guess, but I don't see it as a reason to waste something you've already paid for...

That’s where I’m at also. I have an Endurance that I bought earlier last year to use on my Corvette but ended up buying a CQP for my fall oil change. Now I’m seriously considering using it for my next oil change as I hate wasting money and I honestly don’t think that one 6-7k interval with it would spell disaster. Moving forward I will stay with the CQP, it’s way less (I pay $7.95 CDN, or just over $5 US) and way more convenient for me to buy (I can see the Carquest right now from my window)

I understand completely and even had my daughter finish her 5k oci on one. But I’m no longer paying top dollar for bottom of the barrel QC and craftsmanship. To many other options that look good.
