The local Advanced Auto has a deal right now for 5 quarts of Valvoline Syntech oil and a Bosch oil filter for $26.99...

What do you think of this oil? And how are Bosch filters?
The price per quart of oil is normally $7.49....So, It seems like a pretty good deal!!

Any thoughts??

Valvoline Synpower is great oil. Castrol Syntech is not bad, but I have not used it personally.

Bosch filters are good. The overall deal is OK. $7.49 for a quart of oil is too much, when my Wal-Mart has a 5qrt Synpower jug for $22.50.

valvoline synthetic is about $25/5qt at wally world, and if i remember correctly the bosch filters are around $7 so you'd be saving a few bucks

Synpower is down to $21/5qt jug at my WalMarts and it's about time. $25 was just silly. Maxlife full syn is same price and a stouter oil if your WalMart carries it.

You can still get it for that with the O'Reilly-Valvoline rebate. If the 4qt jugs go on sale again, it'll be about 90 cents/qt including tax. That was sweet while it lasted.

I agree, I paid less than $1/qt earlier this year including tax and stamp. But at this moment it is the good deal.

It's Castrol "Syntec", incidentally!

Go buy it from O'reillys they are having a 3.99 sale on it and you can then submit for the $25 rebate (If you buy 10 quarts) from Valvoine comes out to 1.49 after rebate.

Add pack is one of the weakest available. Almost the lowest among the regular syn oil available. Some dino like mobil clean are even better.Instead of moly or boron or calcium they load it up with sodium,

sounds like a really rip off oil with a cheap add pack.

Yes but the UOAs come out great and there has been a lot of speculation that it contains additives that aren't detected by standard analysis. I do agree with you though that at first glance it has a weak add pack, just not sure if we're seeing the whole story.

Last I heard, Castrol Syntec was not actually synthetic base oil it's filtered dino oil. It's OK oil, but not synthetic.

It is a Group III hydrocracked synthetic, same as PP and Synpower.

All mass-market over-the-counter synthetic oils are Group III now. There have been enough advancements made in Group III base oil technology and additive technology that Group IV PAO is no longer a necessity.

Alot of people are now entering the syn market Fram, Advance etc. soon you will be able to buy Walgreens syn for 2.50 a qt. Is it just me and it could be, but I think a message is there for us to figure out on our own.
