Valvoline Restore & Protect

I think it's just a guidance than some hard requirement of 4 oil changes. My car was burning a quart every 1K miles and it took just two VRP oil changes of 5K each and it seems to have completely stopped at 156K miles. I could probably switch to another oil at this point till I notice the oil level dropping again.

I'm still going to continue using it just because it worked so well though. Of course, it helps that I always did 5K oil changes since new so the engine was pretty clean and the only issue was stuck piston rings.

Just used VRP for first time and I gotta say - does it have a very distinctive smell to it? doesn't smell like any other oil that I can recall. In any case both my 2006 Cadillac STS 3.6 and 1999 F150 5.4 got it. The truck also got a bottle of AT-205 to hopefully help out the seals as I wont be pulling those valve covers any time soon.

Completely agree - it's just a guideline.

I only posted because there seem to be expectations from other posters that 4 OCIs is all that's needed then you go back to the oil you'd rather be using. Or sidebars about what the "I" in OCI really means.

If VRP works as advertised, I'm all in - I've seen my MPG improve already and it's only 2500 miles since I first added VRP. If it cleans the rings to where I don't have to check the oil more than once a month I'll be ecstatic. But we'll see. This is an engine where the oil level warning came on between dealer oil changes from when it was new and the Subaru service dept. said "Yeah, they do that" so I'm a little gun shy.

The main reason I think a lot of people are giving it a try seems to be to try and reduce their consumption so once it gets to a point where people are comfortable, that’s when they can either switch back to something else or continue with VRP for the long haul. So if that takes two shorter intervals then that particular engine didn’t need much cleaning to begin with.

That oil consumption is caused by something beside stuck rings if it's been doing it since new.

Genius by Valvoline. Desperate or curious owners of oil burners put 5 quarts of Valvoline in, engine burns 1 quart, go buy one more quart of Vavoline, burns another quart, buy another quart of Vavoline, burns another quart. Time for an oil change. Valvoline says it might take 4 oil changes. Buy 5 more quarts of Valvoline.

Not to say oil burners don't need to buy oil but Valvoline has created a nice funnel. Interestingly nowhere do they advertise this specific oil aids in reducing oil consumption. It's a successful product (for them) no matter what. Genius.

I used the VRP in wife's'19 GDI Pilot yesterday. It has the VCM still active so going with it for the extra cleaning to hopefully keep the rings clear.

The 5k PP Euro-L I took out had some fuel smell to it, we'll see what the UOA comes back with.

They never made a claim that it fixes oil burning

Save money and buy a new $50K car. 🙃 😄

Yep, like I said. It's interesting it's been accepted that it helps oil consumption and varnish without those specifically listed as features of the product. I can see the 'it's worth a shot' aspect though. For all I know perhaps it regrows hair and cures ED.
Marketing wording is always done carefully by all oil sellers, for a good reasons. For instance, if Valvoline claimed it was going to cure oil burning and someone's car is burning oil caused by something besides gummed up stuck rings and VRP doesn't cure some mechanical oil burning reason (like broken rings, scuffed up cylinders, bad valve guide seals, etc), then the people using the oil are going to claim it doesn't stop oil burning. Then it grows legs and the internet is full of false information by users.

Valvoline however does say it will clean existing piston deposits. And anyone that knows anything about ICE and that stuck piston rings pretty much leads to oil burning will put 2+2 together and understand that if it will clean pistons and rings then it will most likely help the oil burning issue if that's the cause of someone's engine burning oil.

I’ll also add restoring compression. Some have reported better fuel mileage on top of reduced oil consumption.

It's also interesting they say 100%. When is ANYTHING 100%? I think their out is by saying "based on adapted sequence IIIH testing". I guess it's all "the implication".

Nevermind. They say "up to 100%" which is meaningless. Gotta love marketing. I'll see myself out

It says "up to 100%" ... that's not the same as saying it cleans all engines to 100%. If it was used in a pretty new car that had very little deposits, then it certainly could clean all the existing deposits, which would pretty much be "to up to 100%".

Lol I just noticed that. It means nothing.

If my job was in marketing and I had accepted I had no soul yet was still going to hell, as is lol
No different than any other marketing for virtually everything sold to the public ... Valvoline isn't breaking any new ground there, lol. But as seen in this thread and many other places on the internet, there is proof it actually works for most. So people should make up their mind based on people's feedback who have actually used it instead of jumping to conclusions based on "marketing".
