Valvoline Restore & Protect

Still no R&R in Canada!.. Yet they promote it on their Canadian site website!..
It must be coming soon (although Valvoline doesn’t respond to emails asking them about it) 🤦‍♂️ The fact that Valvoline oil change places are using it in Canada is a good sign that it might be sold in Canadian Tire and/or Walmart here in the near future.

Anyone running this oil full time or do most only use it a few times and switch back to something else?

Currently on my first oci with it but will be done with the 4 changes by the end of February or March doing 5k oci. Probably gonna do a uoa on the 3rd or 4th and see hope it’s holding up at 5k, might extend it to 7500 or switch to something else after. Don’t have any issues with it so far halfway through the first fill of it, still looks pretty clean too. Using upf64r filters on it as well, 2018 Cruze 1.4 with 78k on it currently but putting about 5k a month on it.

I am 2500 miles into my first OCI with VRP and I have yet to decide if I’m going to continue using it after 4 intervals or if I will switch to something else. It currently isn’t available in Canada so I have to grab it when I cross over the border, which isn’t that big of a deal other than the fact that I can never find it in the Walmart I usually visit in Niagara Falls, I have only found it at the other Walmart in town which is an extra 30 minute round trip. So it’s a slight hassle, and having it available in Canada would certainly make me more likely to consider using it long term.

Running VRP for just over 1k km in Sportage, was planning on replacing oil filter at 2k km mark but oil looks clean on dipstick after 1k... hmm. Much cleaner than what Pennzoil Platinum would look like when I ran it.

The color change has more to do with the anti-oxidant interacting with heat. This is a product designed to clean very slowly over at least 4 OCI. You may also not have any carbon to clean if the engine was well maintained.

Are there issues with buying (and bringing cross border) larger quantities. I would buy all I need for my foreseeable future with that car in one sitting.

I don’t believe that you would have a problem with that, other than having to pay duty on having spent more money. I usually spend less than $100 when I cross the border and they just usually ask if I have bought any alcohol or tobacco products and I don’t have to pay duty even though I’m usually only across the border for a couple of hours. I don’t think motor oil concerns them.
