Valvoline Restore & Protect 0W-20 Honda CR-V

It really varies with how dirty your engine is when you first go to the VRP. My J35 was a museum of epic varnish after 200k+, so it's somewhat of an extreme case.

Those of you who wisely changed oil more frequently and kept cleaner engines probably will not see anything so aggressive from VRP.
I'm sure you've posted elsewhere, but remind me what your oil change history was before VRP?

Is "WMT" Walmart? Was OLM usually 10k?
Yes and while using the OLM I didn't really track it but it was in the area of 7k, but 7k of short trips and lots of fuel dilution and cool running for years and years.

In the rare occasion we took a long road trip, it would get closer to 10k I'm sure. But the entire point of the OLM is not tracking miles, so I didn't.

Finally picking up my 2007 CRV from the shop this afternoon. Unfortunately will be just a bit longer before I can change the oil but hoping to pull the valve cover first to get a good look at it. Will likely change the plugs at the same time.

Still debating whether I stick to 5w20 or bump it up to 5w30. At this point I’m leaning towards the 30 due to engine age (165k) and my inclination that the thicker oil will provide more protection at the expense of some very minor efficiency (mpg).

Update: Had to add my first quart of VRP 0W-20 after around 2200 miles into the first OCI. Am debating doing a filter change. With the warmer weather here in Ohio starting to become more common looking to bump up to 5W-20 or even 5W-30 for the summer.

In Atlanta, I'd never consider the 20 grade VRPs and would go straight to the 5w30, which my Hondas seem quite happy on. You don't have the measurement resolution to see a MPG difference attributable to the oil.

Does that mean it's burning more than it did before?

The Pilot has had nothing by Amsoil SS 0W20 till the last 3 oil changes. It got SS 0W30 twice and now XL 5W30. I like how it runs on the 5W30. Next oil change will be SS 5W30. Yeah I’m a Amsoil guy, lol. The Tundra will get the same after 85K. It’s serviced by me and the dealer.
I'm looking to use some VRP 5W-20 or 5W-30 this summer for my second OCI. Expecting to lose 1-2 mpg though.

That's quite the jump from dealer bulk oil to AMSOIL. Wouldn't AMSOIL's benefits be best realized early on in the engine life?

Belated update! I put in the second interval of VRP in the CR-V late last week, although i decided to bump up the viscosity from 0W-20 to 5W-30. Mobil 1 M1-110A filter. Awaiting my Oil Analyzers kit and oil filter cutter and hope to update again soon. First VRP interval (OW-20) burned 1.5 quarts in around 5200k miles. The VRP did *slightly* clean the baffle but only on the parts where the varnish has been scraped off with my oil funnel. Dipstick is slightly cleaner now, however.
