Does anyone have experience with the 5 gallon valvoline box? I'm wanting to switch both of my vehicles over to R&P. The 20qts of the 5 gal box is almost perfect for 3 changes in my vehicles vs buying 3-5qt jugs for 2 changes and having a qt left over. I'm looking for feedback on the 5 gallon box since I've never handled one in person. I'm familiar with the 12qt garage box but wanted to make sure the 5 gallon version didn't make it unwieldly. I'll probably use an old/clean 5qt jug to dispense. Or open to suggestions on a new dispensing container if I'm switching over to the box full time. With subscribe and save from Valvoline's website the 5 gallon is under $100 with free shipping. Saves about $1/qt over the jugs and is hopefully easier to manage. I was hoping for a good black friday deal but they only threw in a free hat which doesn't really change things for me.

I got (5qt) boxed oil before. I have no problem with them. Getting the last bits of oil with an overnight drain is a bit more difficult. I'm not sure, but I would be cautious with long term storage as the plastic bag may get brittle. I usually transfer the oil into a sturdy jug the first chance I get. I incinerate my garbage, so it is more earth friendly at my end.

The only time I buy boxes is if I find a deal on them. At one time, I had enough boxes that I bought one of those dispenser bottles with the quart / liter designations and flexible spout on it.

I use the 3 gal supertech boxes and am not overly enthusiastic about them. I dispense into an old 5 qt Mobil 1 jug and though there's a see through level indicator it's hard to use. The spout pulls out of the box with some of the plastic and I can start the stream fine but when I shut it off there seems to be a teaspoon stuck in a fold somewhere that dribbles when I pull the spout out from the intermediate jug.

Plus having one hand on the faucet and the other on the jug makes it hard to judge how heavy the jug is getting. I want 4.5 quarts so I try to get it pretty full without going over. I'm sure it can be done, I'd set yours up over a pig mat or something until you get the hang of it.

Can you refill these? With waste oil? That is the best part of the buckets, as I just have one ready with a funnel in the top for waste oil at all times. It seems the dirtbike needs an oil change every week so the kids can pretty much do it all themselves now.

I think using an old 5qt jug to dispense is a great idea, and it’ll make things less messy. Another option could be a spout or pump attachment for the box, which might make it even easier to pour without spilling. Since you’re already familiar with the 12qt box, the 5-gallon should be similar, just a bit bigger. It’s a solid way to save money, especially with that subscription discount.

I have used their 5 gallon ATF boxes which should be the same. Set the box on the edge of your bench with your jug of choice under and the spout works great. Only issue is getting the last pint or so out. Just take the bag out of the box at that point.

What motor oil product name of Valvoline is under $100 with free shipping? Is it the Advanced?.... which sells at Walmart for around $25, per five quart jug.

If so, then how can you be saving a $1 per quart? Aren't you only saving around $1.50 per five quart jug?
What dollars amount exactly is 'under $100'? Would that be $99...... $98...... $97?

6 gallon bag-in-box is industry standard across most brands. Just find a whole distributor local to you.

They do ironically look like boxed wine.

Yea most brands go for a 6 gallon box (Mobil 1, Castrol, Pennzoil, etc...). Valvoline does 5 gallon boxes for whatever reason. They don't have 6 gallon boxes.

I've attempted to math this. It doesn't check out.

$116 for 20 quarts via Valvoline website. $5.80 a quart. Subscribe / save not offered on the 20 qt boxes.

$30 at Walmart, and you get $5 off a jug. $5 a quart.

I have subscribed to a few 5 gallon boxes.

I think the option is gone.

Edit:
No, I just didn't click the grade. Disregard. Now I see it. What follows below is not accurate.
