5 qt plus jugs

Whats with the new 5qt plus jugs? Any vehicle I`ve ever owned called for either 5 or 6 qts with filter change, and every vehicle has been just over the full line after an oc , and with a plus jug, I`d be over full even more .
I don`t get it ! All I can think of is that for a 6 qt fill for instance, I could use a 5 plus jug and be a little
low , ?

One way manufacturers are getting longer OCI's and happier customers is with larger sumps. A less than 4 quart sump is unheard of these days, but was common in the late 90's. Now, you see a lot in the 6+ range. For example, the new Toyota v6 in, well, everything they make is 6.8qts, where the old one was about five.

Haven't seen any 5+ jugs, but I doubt I'll own another car that takes a 5qt and leaves change. Even the engine in the HL got a revised oil pan with 1/2 quart larger capacity the year after mine.

Also, as I've been told, Walmart holds the rights to 5 qt jugs, which is why you wont see 5 qt jugs elsewhere. B/c most cars take over 4 qts, you're starting to see 4.x and 5.x qt jugs in auto stores

Why would you add the full jug if your car does not call for that many qrts. Those 5+ jugs are about 5.5 qrts. Evertime i use one in the Jetta i always have a qrt left over.

The 5+ quart jugs are actually 5-liter jugs.
