If you wanted to buy from a company oil and filters that are as close to 100% USA as possible who would that be? I assume

Mobil Oil ?
Valvoline / Ashland ?

What about filters.
Puroilator is made in USA but as of 2013 owned by a German company
Fram is supposed to be made in USA but now owned by Rank group in New Zealand
Wix is currently for sale as the private equity group Cypress Group is looking to get rid of Wix

Most of the Wix fillers I get are USA made. The odd tranny and air filter are made somewhere else.

You could try Baldwin or a Hastings filter. The ones I get are USA made.

Ya I'm sure many are made in America but what if you wanted to back an American owned company.

Sadly, your options are very limited.

First we exported our entire manufacturing base, now we're in the process of selling our companies to our "global partners".

Good question. I'll answe this way. I'm young and growing up my family always had Hondas and Toyota. I was thought that they made better cars and I think that used to be the case. Now fast forward a few years and I have had no luck with Honda "long term". The Toyota I mention is my moms and I maintain it. I have owned the cars for almost 5 years now and I have since started thinking a bit more for myself. At this point they are paid off and not worth anything so I'm going to run them into the dirt but I will likely make a different choice in the future.

Maybe he's seen the error of his ways and wants to change his buying. FWIW I buy ACDelco, which has printed made in USA on the filter. I'm assuming they are still part of GM, which is an American company.

Clarcor may be the only one left? I like the Baldwin filters but they are still using nitrile valves and standard construction. But then again what's wrong with conservative changes and keeping what works? Then again I think Clarcor is also a global producer. Then again a huge filter producer like Fram does create a lot of USA jobs, and I liked the video of their filter machinery. Can't win, and it is a big statement to have to try so hard to find USA owned and made.
Another thing I like with Baldwin is you have one kind to buy, assume it is their best, rather than a good, better, best choice like other companies.

Jake, how about instead looking for companies that employ American workers? Even though Purolator is owned by a German company, I like the fact that my Motorcraft filters are made by American workers, and I doubt they care who signs their paychecks.

USA-made and owned does not equal a better product. We've seen that over the past couple of years now.

foreign vs local discussion??? - in the 70s/80s when GM was making junk (locally) the GM executives were sleeping, making big salaries with lots of perks, and doing little to even be aware that the Japanese were doing it better.
what there is a problem????
well we can always blame it on unionized labor, which was part of the problem but lots more caused by no testing before production, bad design, bad selection of vendors and sub contractors, and bad materials, which when assembled immediately rusted ( the Vega, and 65 chevelle back glass clips) olds 4 6 8 diesel, corsair and on and on.

i just thought i would put it out there. I assume Purolator and Fram are all good as they manufacture here in the U.S. All and all I just wanted to throw the conversation out there and see what everyone else thought. I guess its just the way things are. What about oil? Is Ashland fully USA owned?

There are plenty of other things to worry about then something like this, but hey,if you got the time,go for it!

+1

I respect that.
You're right on Honda
I owned a ton of them and they are sliding down hill for many reasons. Toyota outsourced to China and got burned several times.
They all do.
Hastings-Federated OF's are USA made and I got a killer deal on Rock auto on them. They look good. At least the LF240 models I use.
Every little bit helps. I've had great luck with my newer Fords.
