Some chiseler saved maybe $ 3.50 by doing this, if this is how it went down.
What a shame that some people are like this - risk the embarrassment & more (I would think this is a crime to do this deliberately) over such a petty thing.

I wonder if the manufacturers are going toward sealed packaging, maybe with a see-through window, which would deprive honest people of the chance to look at it & make a decision.
It's a small thing, but it really struck me - what a dumb thing to do.

Buy the Mopar filters by the case on EBAY,you'll save some money. What year is your K? Mine's an 88.

It is a shame.
I like how the Bosch D+ filters were in clear boxes, easy to check.
I do wish they would seal them then have a little cellophane window on the boxes, but I am sure that costs more money (compared to the loss due to theft).
I do check the filters before I buy them. When there are clearance filters, it is even worse. I remember when the HM fitlers were on clearance, I saw several XG boxes with the HM filters in them.

Depending on the size of the store, there could very well be a couple hundred cameras in Walmart. But this is Walmart, a bare bones operation, not a casino. They just don't have the manpower to monitor every camera in the store. Most of the time, the camera footage is used to document something after the fact.

Apart from the checkouts and exits. electronics, cosmetics and pharmacy are the only areas that loss prevention actively monitors.

Guess those thieves need to look good.

They should just shrink wrap filters and have the barcode on the wrap, not the box. Otherwise self checkout is too easy of a way to steal oil filters. Keeps the filter clean too which is another issue.

Typical of lots of packaging at my Walmart too.

You have to check very carefully.

The premium Fram filters have the same easy to open packaging as the other reg. filters.

I guess I've missed out on all of this by buying all my oil filters online for the past decade or so.

That's why I like my Nissan and Honda oem's,they're always individually shrink-wrapped inside the boxes, and the boxes are glued shut.

For those who are intent upon practicing this form of shoplifting - which is exactly what it is - ways will be found.

Shoplifting of any kind is a problem and an expense. Most big stores have strict instructions to not stop or block someone running out of the store with merchandise. At an Arco gas station, a kid was running out the door with an 18 pack of beer right past the clerk that did nothing. I stuck my foot out and tripped the kid. He did a face plant into a large rack of merchandise and was stunned by the impact. The clerk yelled to let him go but a couple of older guys grabbed him and called the police. The Sheriff showed up and took the kid away. The clerk was upset and said this might cost him his job. Later I found out that it did.

So much nonsense goes on in the world. Clerk gets fired for something he had no control over - crazy.

Sometimes, there is justice. - True story.

I was in a Walmart when a thief took a construction worker's drill battery pack. The construction workers caught up with the guy where they park the shopping carts. The construction workers had the thief pinned to the concrete. After the screaming and scuffle ended, the police hauled the thief to jail and the construction workers resumed work on the Walmart Pharmacy. I don't think this was the first incident because the police were there in less than 2 minutes. I wonder if the thief learned his lesson.

"I wonder if the thief learned his lesson."

That might depend on whereabouts those construction workers drilled the guy.
