UAW workers hard at work!

Oh I read it. Fact is, I'm sure that this behavior is not coming to anyone as a surprise. The big boss is just sad that people got caught looking stupid and now he's going to need to take some sort of action.

A lot of stuff on this site makes me laugh, because it's very much like the comments on CNN articles. So much spewing of hate, anger and emotion, but with very little actual knowledge of the situation, or what is going on. I would bet most of you have never set foot in a UAW plant, or know anyone who works in a UAW plant yet you feel you know everything. Rather you think you know what you WANT to be the case. This isn't confined to just this issue, and I'm not innocent of it either. The truth is, none of us know EXACTLY what is going on.

The only person on this board that i'm aware of that knows what goes on in UAW facilities is GMBoy, because he WORKS in one, and is a manager. Therefor according to you he must be a lying, lazy, drug/alcohol addict. Which anyone with half an ounce of common sense would know is complete, total, utter [censored].He is one of the best and most knowledgeable contributors on this site. Heck, he has offered to take anyone who comes down there on a tour of the plant! I bet a trip down there would change your mind.

Drunk UAW workers I think are partly responsible for the 1978 AMC Pacer.

Although there had to be mass alcohol consumption in the board room at GM when the Aztec got the go ahead.

Lol as far as the aztek is concerned, I think someone piped funny gas into the room, because that thing was ridiculous.

I'll punish myself later for wasting time commenting ... this is a politically-driven news article, hoping to discredit the gov't auto funding efforts.

Not newsworthy. If there was 20 guys getting baked/hosed, that represents POINT SEVEN PERCENT OF THEIR TOTAL 2,833 person workforce. Can the bad apples and move on.

Do you know what the definition of APATHETIC means?

I know all I need to know about unions based upon my years with the state and my father's years in the federal government.

I'm not making a far stretch basing my knowledge to an assumption of deductive reasoning towards this instance.

I'd actually love to hear what GMBoy has to say. He could shed light on the production, professionalism, and responsibility of the plant he works at.

I doubt anything is going to change my mind on unions, though. When you find out what the union does (or wants to do), simply do the opposite. This is sound advice.

Exactly. The fact is, I'd say this has or does happen in a lot of industries. I'm in the defense industry and was in the Merchant Marine before, and have heard countless stories like, "oh, man. It was CRAZY here in the 70s." What was once socially acceptable or just ignored will only continue to be so until enough people put their foot down, usually when enough people start jumping on the bad-band wagon. Also, a little bit of crazy today will define how today was in 20 years. Regardless of what the older guys here say, I'm sure it wasn't nearly as bad, and even they probably "experienced" it all through hear-say.

With all that being said, I hope they do help those who have legitimate problems, and that they're able to get better and get back to work. I'm sure every one will claim such and go through some form a rehab and sit through their required AA classes during their "indefinite suspension," regardless, so it won't matter much...

It's hilarious that some idjit is trying to use this to bash Fox. It's not even a Network story, just an affiliate feed. [censored].

Union workers and non-union workers do this all the time. But the union boys will not be fired easily.

What's new?

That's why they were suspended. It's amazing how much stuff some people can get away with. We had a cop here that drove drunk, hit a couple of bikers stopped at the red light and killed one of them.

I think he still has his job and cannot be prosecuted because the investigators somehow botched the alcohol test and it was thrown out as an evidence.

But the UAW response is better than what I have seen in other places:

Response from the UAW:

The UAW strongly opposes the use of controlled substances or alcohol use on the job. This type of behavior jeopardizes the health and safety of all employees. We also recognize that, unfortunately, these behaviors exist in our society.

The UAW and the Chrysler Corporation work together to keep our workplaces drug and alcohol free, and to encourage employees with substance abuse problems to get the treatment they need. The employees involved in this situation do not represent the vast majority of workers at Chrysler who do a great job making high quality vehicles in some of the most productive manufacturing facilities in the United States.

One year I had a summer job working night shift as part of a two man team plus a supervisor. My partner was eventually fired because he did coke while on his break. Not to be outdone, the supervisor was later fired for drinking on the job. Funny thing is, he was caught the first time and only received a warning. Then he made the mistake of doing it again and having people on first shift notice the condition he was in.

My brother-in-law worked at a Ford plant in the late 70's/early 80's. He told lots of stories like these. Stories also included workers urinating (and worse) under the seats and workers throwing handfulls of nuts/bolts into fenders to cause rattles. They would openly take drugs and drink. Management would/could do nothing.

After everything that has happened over the past few years I can't believe this is still going on. So many auto workers have lost their jobs you would think they would know better. I guess they just don't care or feel the union will take care of them. Another reason I won't buy a car made by UAW workers.

I don't blame Fox, I blame the UAW and the idiots in Washington protecting these morons.

Well, we own FOUR UAW made cars, my grandfather has had 3, and so on, and none of them exhibit any signs this kind of stuff, or uncaring, careless workers.
