I will be installing a drain plug in the pan on my 700r4. Is there any particular one that I should go for? Are any of the kits better than the others or are they pretty much all the same?

I used a B&M one and it works fine. I would highly recommend brazing, soldering, or JB welding the plug in after you tighten it down though, because it will probably leak. I used JB weld and it worked great.

I've never used a kit. My preferred method involves a 3/8" X 3/4" bolt, a 3/8" NC nut, a 3/8" copper washer, and two tack welds.

I put the JB weld (the clay type, like Quicksteel) on the threads of the bolt, then put it in the pan so the jb weld got smushed against the pan. It was from the outside. Once the bolt was tightened up, I packed in the jb weld with my thumb so it formed a good seal.
