A couple days ago I was going to put some Lubegard red bottle transmission protectant in my 2003 Vibe (108k miles). I had a complete transmission exchange 25k miles ago (August 2008) at the Toyota dealer using Toyota T-IV (Vibes have a Toyota drivetrain). Since I was going to have to loosen the drain plug a bit anyway to get some fluid out before adding the LG addative I just decided to empty the pan which replaces about half the fluid.

The fluid that came out was nearly black - it had very little color left in it! I put the LG in and added the right amount of Toyota T-IV (local Car Quest had it for $6 a quart). Fulid looks like it has life again and it shifts much better. Most noticably it doesn't downshift nearly as often as it used to going up hills. I'm definitely a believer in LG now, and in at least 40k transmission fluid exchanges!

I don't care what people say about color doesn't mean anything. these vibe trans chew up the Toyota T-IV fluid. I do a drain/fill every 20k miles.

Is the Vibe a CVT transmission?
A bunch of newer transmissions have carbon fiber parts that turn all fluids BLACK almost instantly.
I was reading up on the newer Ford Taurus last year at the Texas State Fair and Ford even put a note in the User Manuel about black ATF.

I have had similar results with Lubegard Red. Good stuff.

LG is a great product, and has quite a following. I probably would have topped up with the recommended ATF drove a bit and drained it a few times, to get all the old ATF out. Then when I was certain all the fluid was swapped out, I would have added the LG. JMO

Nope, it is a regular 4 speed auto.

I know the transmission fluid color not being very red anymore doesn't necessairly mean it isn't still doing its job, but I was surprised at how dark it was after only 25k. I'll probably get another full exchange in 30k and do the LG addative again.

You can't use LG on Dex VI?

Yes you can, but with Dex 6 it's not needed because Dex 6 is a great fluid by it's self and needs no help.

My fluid was jet black and nasty at 31,000miles - Nissan versa 08 - I just did 4 drain and fills last week - I think ATF should be changed every 10-15,000 miles.
Cheers
