My wife and i bought a 2005 tundra double cab last may for her. what a great truck! i changed the oil and filter at 1000 miles w/ dino and then at 3000 miles i put in scheaffers 5w30. i was just going to go by toyota's recomendation of 5000 miles. i used to go 10k oci on her tacoma with amsoil and blackstone analysis but i was always worried about "what if" warranty problems.

how long can this oil last in this engine? it's the great toyota 4.7l v8
the reason i ask is i am underway (coast guard) for the next 7-8 weeks and she only has about 800 miles until she reaches 5000 on the oil. think its safe for it to go over by 2000 miles? or more?
when she has 5k on the oil, the truck with have 8k on it
thanks

I believe the Schaeffer's will go to 8k just fine.

I also believe Toyota may give you a hassle if you need warranty work, what with their new demand for 5k OCIs.

Who among us Toyota owners wants to be the first to test their resolve on the mandated 5k OCI?

If I read that USA Today article on the Coast Guard correctly two weeks ago, with the lack of new equipment and spare parts, and minimal budgetary support from Congress, you don't need to be worrying about OCIs and warranty coverage while underway. Just change it.

I have this same combo! I also run 5K OCIs. Since it is so new, I would go ahead and change it and worry about extending it later.

However, Ken2 has shown us approx. 8k OCIs with no problem in his Tundra. Check the UOA section.

yeah, i nkow i should change it. if i could i would but i'm underway now for the next 6-7 weeks
i don't like other people touching our vehicles. maybe i'll have a trusted friend do it for her
thanks
