Toyota Speedometer Cable Lube

My 88 4Runner has a bouncy speedometer cable. I'm flushing out the old grease by disconnecting the top and bottom and spraying brake cleaner into it until it comes out clear.

I'm contemplating using Boeing T-9 spray to relube the cable. It's supposedly a clinging wax type lube that is good for cables and chains.

Would you suggest a different spray lubricant? I can't seem to get the cable to pull out so a solid grease would be difficult to apply.

There are two schools of thought:

- dry lubes like graphite

- greases

On the dry side is graphite powder in the hardware store and Dri Slide cable lube.

On the grease side GM dealers seem to favor AC Grease #25033356.

The T-9 is doing good so far. Remind me to update in about 3 years

I'd use something like Tri-Flow or a dry lube. Speedo cables and bike cables aren't much different construction wise.
