Hi all.

Bought a used Toyota Auris, and the dealer gave it a service before delivering it to us. They used genuine Toyota 5w30 oil.

I know that Toyota 0w-20 has a lot of fans on this forum..but can I assume that the 5w30 is also a decent oil? The shop manager told me it was a Mobil 1 oil with a few changes in additives. Is that true?

Thanks all.

It's a synthetic blend and very good oil. Nothing to be worried about. It runs quieter in the Matrix than the 0w20 by a lot.

It should be fine. Why do you ask? Simple truth of the matter is all you need to do is replace your oil on the manufacturers schedule with any quality oil (Moble1, Pennzoil, Castrol, Motorcraft, Quaker State, Valvoline, Havoline, even Supertech) at the recommended viscocity for your area, the cars engine will outlast all of the plastic pieces and fabric on the car. Conventional, Semi-syn or Full Synthetic doesn't matter either for regular commuter car. Just make sure it gets changed before it is expended.

Also, OEM filters (you can get them by the boxload for cheap on Ebay storefronts to Toyota dealerships around the country for cheap) are also all you need.

No need to overthink it.

I have the following vehicles to submit as anecdotal non-scientific evidence

79 Corolla - 180K miles
86 Toyota PU R22 engine - 400K miles
93 T100 PU V6 - 380K miles
99 Corolla - 150K miles
04 Camry - 180K miles
07 Tacoma - 100K miles Still own
07 Sienna - 140K miles
14 Sienna - 40K miles Still own

All vehicles that I don't still own were sold with perfectly sound engines. No smoke and minimal oil consumption. (like 1 qt/ 5K miles max, Fill to full, it drops to low at 5K miles worst case)
