My son has a 2002 Corolla with 170,000 miles on it. I normally change the oil in it using MaxLife 5w20.
He did not bring it by for a change for 8 months or so, and I assumed he took it to a "Quick-Change" to get it done.
He was by yesterday and asked about me changing it soon being he was at the 5,000 OCI. I said sure and pulled the dipstick. There was a tiny bit oil on the bottom of the stick.
I drained what was left in the pan (~1.3 qts) and replaced oil and filter.
What is the likelihood of the engine being damaged running it nearly 3 qts low for sometime?
