I recently started reading the oil analyses on thechemical composition and wonder which is measure of the stickiness.
This whole thing came out after I was not able to find Mobil 1 and try the Castrol GTX oil.

My son's 04 CRV w/ 200K was getting nosier on start up and after an oil change w/ GTX it sounded more quiet to me. I shrugged this off as the placebo effect but my son which is not a car guy at all over the weekend ask me what I did to make it quieter. The filter was the same since I bought a dozen prior to Covid.

The only thing that would make a quieter start up on a chain and VVT gears would be some kind of stickiness. The oil stays on the change much longer.

I am going to moved away from Mobil to this GTX and would probably try the Valvoline to get another option.

My normal sources for oil purchases are Menard's/ rebates, Walmart and Amazon.

There are handful of threads regarding M1 being noisier vs Brand X.

I’m pretty familiar with many of the standard tests that are part of licenses and approvals and I can say I’ve never seen one for oil stickiness.

Perhaps contact the ASTM and ask them.

Thin synthetic motor oil tends to drain back faster to the sump after you turn off the engine. When you start it back up you will hear some valve train chatter until the oil is pumped back up. Try using some 5W-30 or 5W-40 Euro oil and it will be "noticeably quieter".

This is probably the cause. The quicker drain back with synthetics may be due to their lower surface tension compared with mineral oils plus higher levels of polymer. Synthetics usually have more consistent molecules while there is more variation in minerals (this improves as you progress from Group I through III). I don't know this for sure as I've never looked into it but it does make sense.

The only problem I see w/ moving away from 5-20 to thicker oils are the fine screens that are part of the VVT's and other components.
The screen is like a mosquito net, very fine.

If that's a concern for you, try a 0W-40 Euro oil, like Mobil 1 FS 0W-40. The 0W grade trumps 5W in the cold, every time.

Most Ester and sulfur molecules will have an affinity for some metals. Not sure if there any any standardized tests to measure this

I run 5w40 in my Element that has probably the same 2.4l with no problems. Spec is up to 10w40 in other countries, run whatever you want but don't think it will harm it to go thicker.

No common (cheap) oil analysis will reveal the oil's composition.
Stickiness, tackyness and lubricity, solubility. Not the same, but
there's some correlation. Do a google search for 'aniline point'.

I'd recommend using grease. It may keep where you put on. :ROFLMAO:

The most quiet SP-cert M-I I've exhibited is the EP with Triple Action. This stuff really lessens engine noise, in comparison to regular M-1 in SP. Engine idle has improved also. Most of the time, it feels like my engine is shut off during red lights and I've had Start/Stop disabled now for at least four years.

I've used Castrol Edge Black bottle and Edge EP Gold bottle in ths vehicle and those oils never behaved as well as the Mobil-1 EP Triple Actions.

That Floriol in Mobil 1 EP sure quiets down engines, it's very good stuff. 👍
