Toyota 4 Runner shockingly disappointing rental experience

My 2019 Tacoma is fine. BUT I did have to re-gear to 4.88 and OV Tune it. Plenty of pep, MT is perfect, and cab quiet. Now that I added Bilsteins the ride is spectacular.

All that said it does sound almost like Toyota doesn't care a wit about the USA audience anymore sadly. Almost as bad as Honda, Mazda, Subaru........

Not sure what to buy next car, yet. My truck until whatever age I croak.

Did you do the accumulator mod on the MT? That thing drove me crazy in the brief time I had the 3rd gen 6MT...

Cost cutting apparently has taken its toll this celebrated Toyota.

I'm not sure it's cost cutting. Something is going on across the entire industry. New cars and trucks of all the brands are no longer reliable.

Overcomplexity to meet overregulation is my guess.

I've rented the new 4Runner, it's junk. Although it is at least better than the old one that was noisy, uncomfortable and seemed to have a hole in the gas tank.

The old one, however, had the most reliable production engine ever made in the 4.0L V6 dual VVT-i despite its lousy gas mileage. 16 years of the engine in the 4Runner for a reason. The Car Care Nut, like him or not, said he'd never seen the inside of one bc they never broke as of like 3 or 4 years ago.

@grasscutter well said. Agree. Global marketplace has to be murder; the matrix of regulations they have to consider. Then use a magic ball to guess (bet) what the future holds. Take into account component sourcing, tariffs, taxes, interest rates, labor... gotta be a lot of grey hairs at any manufactures HQ.

It's no wonder more than half the "Cars" out there look basically the same. Koodos to Tesla for their success and fingers crossed things work out for Slate (Really rooting for them and hope to grab one in '28.
