Toro Walk Behind Mower - No Oil Changes Required ?

To be fair, most people never need to change the oil in their lawn mower :sneaky:

Before I switched to electric, I had only changed the oil once on an old B&S flathead, and the mower had been at least 10 years old at the time. I gave it a bottle of Dollar Tree oil back when they had that half quart for $1.

But really, most people with lawns where those cheap mowers are sufficient are better off with electric anyway. They don't require oil changes either, and they are much quieter :D

I was surprised to see a feature of Toro mower engines is to just top off with oil and never change the oil . Unless the engine is expected to have a short life span - that seems odd and something I would not do . I tend to change out mower oil one to two times per season .
It is a marketing ploy to attract the ignorant who would likely not change oil at all.. The concern of the manufacturer is that the mower makes it through the warranty period without failure which in most cases it will. The mower can be tipped to change oil for maintenance.

My SIL/BIL have a pressure washer with said B&S engine. Nice unit! (y)
I change the oil for them on a regular basis since I know they're not going to do it.
I even provide the oil 'cause they let me borrow it anytime I want. I drain the pump too at the end of season
due to them keeping it stored in the outside shed where it'll freeze during the winter.

I change the oil with synthetic 10w-40 once a season. Is there a drain plug on the bottom?

Knee jerk assumption without knowing what's behind it. If I had a mower with that engine, I would still change the oil.

However, there is some truth to the claim depending who buys such a mower.

For math purposes, at my first house, I mowed 34 times a year at most, the time mowing was 50 minutes and any trimming and blowing added to that, so 50X34 = 28.3 hours a year on the engine.

So for someone that has a residential lot and isn't putting tons of hours on the mower annually, the engine will last longer than people think. You still need to maintain the mower and add oil as needed.

Interesting video on it. Start the video at the 5:10 mark unless you wanna waste time watching dumb comedy.

Welcome to the throw-away society we've become.
Yep! But the tree huggers complain and want to save the planet. LOL In the meantime these live a shorter life because a lot of people won't change the oil. Then they end up in landfills, when simple oil changes can greatly extend their useful life. OP change the oil, even if you have to turn the mower upside down to do it, and let the old oil come out the fill tube.
