So the other day i purchased a thule rack for my car at an online web site. The site uses the same exact program thule has at their web site to pick out the proper rack for your vehicle.
I entered my vehicle make (honda), year (2003), and model (civic 2dr).
The site then asks which attachment youd like to use with your rack, i choose bike.
It then asks what kind of rack, i choose roof.
It then tells me i can use the newer style rapid kit, or the older traditional roof rack. I choose the newer style.
The site then displays the bike attachments for the roof rack, and other accessories.
So.. whats my problem? I discovered today that i can't actually use any of the bike attachments that the web site listed. The only kind of attachment i can use is the ski attachment. This is due to the fact that my car is a 2dr, and requires a short roof adapter, which isn't offered with the newer rapid rack setup. This was not indicated anywhere on the thule web site.
I entered my vehicle make, year, model, and what kind of rack i would like to use, and it told me that 1 of my options was the rapid system. The only problem is that this isn't, i can't use the bike attachment with the rapid rack on my vehicle. I called thule once when i encountered a problem on the instructions, and thats when the rep told me that i would have to slide the rear bar up, to where the short roof adapter would normally clamp down. Thats when the rep told me i could only use the ski attachment. Well, why did the web site tell me i could use all these other attachments then? He said that those are just general attachments that can be used with the rapid setup, that its not vehicle specific. So why did i enter my vehicle information if im not getting vehicle specific results? It's like going to an auto parts web site, entering your vehicle information, and offering parts that wont work on your car.
So now i have 30lbs worth of rack equipment i have to send back to the company, out of my pocket, in addition to a 15% restocking fee, in addition to a fee ill probably have to pay since i put togeather parts of the equipment, such as trimming down a rubber strip which goes on the load bars.
I hate thule right now.
