thoughts on QS ultimate Durability

I noticed Quaker State Ultimate durability is about $7 cheaper ($20.99) at Walmart than other synthetics.

Any thoughts as to why? Is it significantly lesser quality? Fewer additives? It is the preferred oil for they Hyundai Elantra 2012, which is what I am changing oil for.............

I know the 5W30 has a cold pour point of -45. So that is impressive alone, must be a decent base sock.

It is has a good does of PAO in it. 40-60% iirc.

I seriously doubt it is 40-60% PAO. Probably mostly group 3 with a decent add pack leaning more toward anti-wear.

Quaker State Ultimate Durability is very highly regarded here.

I think Hyundai/Kia are in bed with the green bottle dino Quaker State (advertising), not the syn specifically but of course Quaker State Ultimate Durability has all the approvals you need, if you keep up with your maintenance they can't gripe about what oil you use at all, and Quaker State Ultimate Durability is a good one for sure.

My vehicles like it, Prius only uses a half quart in 5,000 miles. Very smooth, very affordable. A little noisy with the Santa Fe, though.

It's a great question as to why it is priced like that!! I wondered myself but am starting to get an itch to try Quaker State Ultimate Durability in something.

MSDS lists it as that but the updated one removed the percentages. Straight from the msds: "Blend of severely hydrotreated slack wax, synthetic esters, polyolefins and additives."

The old one said this:" Blend of polyolefins and additives.
The highly refined mineral oil contains w) DMSO-extract, according to IP346.
The highly refined mineral oil is only present as additive diluent."

Quaker State Ultimate Durability is one of my favorite oils... I have moved away from it as of late as I can't get it in 0W20 yet, I'd have to drive to Plattsburgh Walmart to pick it up.

If you have a clean engine, I like Quaker State Ultimate Durability because it leans towards anti-wear in the add pack.

I like PP once in a while to feel like I am cleaning something (that probably isn't there).

For the price, if I "could" get Quaker State Ultimate Durability in 0W20 (not 5W20) that would be hands down my favorite oil.

I found it to be very quiet in my valvetrain as well, purrs along.

That is the reason for the near PAO arctic performance.

To the OP at the current price it is one of the best everyday deals you can find for a synthetic PCMO IMO.

Well thanks to this thread, you guys have me excited. I changed out the oil for the Lexus this evening and replaced it with Quaker State Ultimate Durability 0W20. Be interesting to see the results of a used oil analysis when I dump this in 5000 miles.

Is the 0w really that much better than 5w?

VI is 175 vs 168
HTHSv is 2.6 vs 2.64

But NOACK is 14 vs 13.4

5w meets GM 6094M, Ford WSS M2C945-A, Chrysler MS 6395-S

0w doesn't / QS don't claim it does

The reason for the 0W is for slightly better cold performance for people who live in areas that can see -30C on a regular basis in the Winter, and have a long chilly Spring and a chilly Fall to boot.

So, your car has cold starts for pretty much 9-10 months of the year. It helps with cold start wear, on paper it is supposed to help reduce losses of fuel economy caused by thicker startup oil.

Also reduce strain on the starter, therefore uses less amps and stresses the cold battery less.

But in real life the difference between Quaker State Ultimate Durability 0W and 5W is probably not measurable. It is for "feel good" effect and I cross my fingers that the 0W has slightly better base stocks to help with the 0-rating.

I would, but still under warranty. Toyota wants 5k OCI.
