Thinking of becoming vegetarian ....

I have two words for people thinking about becoming vegans.

Smoked salmon.

I was a vegetarian for 6 years. I gained weight, was dopey, mopey and squishy and my cholesterol would not go down. I went back to lean meat (mostly fish and beef, beefalo) and greens for the most part. Dropped weight and cholesterol, feel better.

There really is no benefit to a no meat diet other than some odd bragging right.

Well said.

Well, ask yourself this, which is better in the long term.

100% fresh fruits and veggies diet.

100% beef, chicken, pork (all raw?)

Who would live longer?

Seriously? Let's not take the argument to the extremes of both sides...

Either of those diets would give you liquid turbo poop.

Yep, my experience too. While I have never been completely sans meat, when I was adding a lot of the conventional-wisdom "good foods" (beans, corn, chicken) my weight and cholesterol went up and up. Cutting all that, cutting cereal (totally useless carbs), adding salmon and the few greens that I can stand, brought it all way down.

I need my flesh dishes.

However, let us know your results, and good luck.

If I tried it I couldn't justify going hunting anymore.

The reason you failed at vegan is because you didn't do it right. You need to cover all bases, and I'd bet money that you didn't. PM me if you'd like to know why.

At least not in your own personal experience, but that's because you didn't do it the right way, I'd bet on it.

Bull pucky. I can turn you on to some books on why veganism is not for some body styles. Dude, I read and tried everything for 6+ years. Trust me, your word choice is NOT correct, I did not fail. Every vegan is an expert at converting others. Gotta love that.

Ah baloney. I've seen them all in the last 30 years so don't bother. My friends could dispute it all with facts. My friends know it ALL. I have faith in them. They taught me how.

You're fooling yourself but that's OK. Keep a closed mind and enjoy eating flesh. Tell yourself you're doing the right thing. Been there, done that, but *I* kept an open mind and have found and moved on to better things.

I'm not trying to convert anyone. I have my side of the story and I'm telling it. Got something against that? Do you wish I'd keep my mouth shut so you can continue to proceed as a supposed successful carnivore and try to prevent people from eating vegan, because it didn't work for you, based on the approach you took? Do you think your one result spells it all out? I sure don't. You sure sound grumpy for a so called happy carnivore.

You may do as you wish.

But please don't use the words "you failed" when referring to diet situations where you don't know or aren't involved personally. In fact I would not have replied at all if you hadn't written that. I have to say that it's interesting you think I have a "closed mind"......I actually have a very open mind and have tried many options. I know what works for me, and you do what works for you, but please keep an open mind.

If you didn't fail, why did you change your diet? I don't need to be involved personally. You seem to have a short fuse.

Just not the option that would make you succeed at being vegan, that's all.

You spoke your side, and I spoke mine, but you seem just a little bit grumpy about it. My mind is open. I *probably* know exactly why you didn't succeed at a vegan diet but that's OK.

I'm not here to convert people. I'm here to explain why vegan CAN be an option, and IMO a BETTER option, for anyBODY, IF they choose to take this route.

The forum is open - Why don't you just go ahead and educate us?

OK then, I may as well. Some of you will undoubtedly think it's too extreme or whatever but this is the way I eat and live and IMO it's the healthiest way there is, and I've tried them all in the last 30 years. At my age [I turn 60 in late May], I needed to find the diet that would prevent disease, not grow it, and I believe this is it.

The way I eat

It's based on the Mucusless Diet Healing System. Their premise is that eating animal proteins creates mucus which gunks up the GI tract and organs. So far, this way of eating is helping me, and I do believe it will work long term.

I take "superfood" every morning in juice, and I think this is what can make the BIG difference in a vegan way of eating. SF contains all the amino acids in balance, as well as B12 and other things. I take no supplements at all.

I am leaning towards vegetarian more, having a pet is making me think, even though the pet eats meat. Just the whole animal killing thing, and that they have about the same feelings we do, sometimes I think my dog is more sensitive than I am. They are made just as beautifully complex as we, it is quite amazing how they and we are made. I don't care about diet, fat or any of that. We can live quite well on plants so why kill the little buggers is what I am thinking. Of course in nature dogs hunt and kill animals for food, but we have more options with our larger brains.

I probably sounded a little grumpy myself in my reply to Pablo. Lately I do handle conflict a lot better than I used to but I realize it still needs some work. The best way to handle a reply like Pablo's first reply to me in this thread is to walk away and think about how best to reply for an hour or more, then reply. I didn't do that. Instead I impulsively jumped right in with the first thing that came to my mind, but that's still better than I used to do.
