Thick vs thin debate...

Vehicle: '21 suv 6 cyl, not di, oil/coolant exchanger sans blower manufacturer recommends 5-20 compliant with a makers specification.
Use: typical with the addition of a great deal of soft roading (extended time on mild dirt roads at low to very low speeds with frequent stops
Area: Northeast US
Concern: oil temps during summer months-'gauge' has no degree indication only an idiot bar
Brand insert any high price 'boutique' name-and yes there really is a difference
Intent: switch to 5-30 for use during the summer while maintaining a much more frequent then recommended change schedule

Has anyone come across reports/studies of engine oil temp rise in vehicles that have proper oil temp gauges with the use of different viscosity oils specifically in off road use ?
