The Koreans Mean Business! (Hyundai Genesis)

So I had some time to kill today before a meeting so I sent to a Hyundai Dealership to get a replacement PCV for my Santa Fe as preventative maintenance and while I was there I seen that they finally had a Genesis in the show room.

I looked at my watch and look around the dealership, with time to kill and a quiet dealership I thought why not go for a spin.

I got a salesmen all involved and took one for a spin. I have to tell you that aside from

all over it it was very very luxurious, quiet, peppy and anything else you would expect out of a fine car.

It was hard for me not to trade my Santa Fe in right then and there and take it home...

Guys, I think these Koreans mean business and if I were their competition I would start worrying now.

It is a nice car and something to be worried about. I read a writeup on the car a few months ago that was pretty positive.

It will be built in the USA, and it just got the "CAR OF THE YEAR" award... You should see their "We will skip the I told you so's" commercial on TV, it's very cheeky!

Son-in -law has a Hyundai Elantra 2007. He's a bit hard on a car. Doesn't do regular maintenance, not mechanically inclined, changes oil and filter once a year at a up the street Quick Lube or Jiffy Lube. Car has never given him any issues.

They have certainly come a long way since they first started selling Hyundai here years ago. They learned their lesson well.

I think the engine puts out 370 Horsepower and it is rear wheel drive.

The coupe version is quite the sportscar if the Super Bowl add is anything to go by.

They offer great value but personally I would never buy one as long as the Big Three and the Europeans are still in the game.
The main reason is that they are basically copy cats. They will pick a target product and make something comparable at a reduced price. It works quite well on lower end vehicles, less so on hlgher end cars.

It looks like a Mitsubishi modified into a Hyundai generating 375 Horse power at the rear wheels...

I was doing 100 KPH 1/3 way down the on ramp of the highway it got up and went like nobodies business and without any feeling or vibration from the engine. Just a slight roar and it was gone! Pedal to the floor for testing purposes of course

Was kinda like driving a comfy leather couch with a silent rocket underneath it.

My friend says "Nothing better than sex in a Lexus" I would beg to differ... Bet you this car would have something to say about that!

The Genesis makes nowhere near 375 rwhp.

I think it's 375 at the crank.
But as everyone knows, Korean horses are smaller there European or Domestic counterparts.

And from testing it today... I would believe those numbers are conservative and printed for liability or some other reason. I have driven a Porsche, Ferari, BMW, Audi and this car delivers on performance. Hit the gas and it goes...

God I want this car...

The Genesis makes 375 HP at the crank/flexplate/flywheel, once you account for an 18% driveline loss (auto, big wheels, IRS, etc.) and you've got 305-310 rwhp.

And judging by the car's 100-103 mph traps, those numbers look just about right for a 4,000 lb car (~4,200 lb race weight) with ~300 rwhp.

I've seen some big engineering projects that the Koreans have done.

Patents appear to mean absolutely nothing to them.

I've seen one piece of equipment that had three patented modifications just in one area (they didn't work well together).
