The 2011 Corolla is very handsome.

IMO it looks uglier than the 2009 ones. The tail light looks out of place with the white stripe. Toyota needs to hire real designers. They haven't had anything good looking in their line up for the longest time. The only decent looking cars from them are the Highlander, Sienna, and Venza. Their trucks and the Yaris look like plastic surgery gone wrong. And I don't know if looking like a Lexus (IS excepted) is more of an insult or a complement. Hyundai was smart. They snagged someone from BMW to design their cars. And right now, imo they have the nicest lookers between them and KIA.

The interior is crud. The plastics are what you would expect from a Dodge or Chevy. Seating is awkward and cramped. I've been in 3 different generations of Civics and they all felt roomy compared to the latest Corolla. And for the price of an LE, you can get a base midsize with pretty much the same features and more room.

Seriously? Man, that thing is a snoozer. Still using a 4 speed AT and drum brakes in the rear. Very innovative.

As for the pics showing the S model ground effects package, like putting lipstick on a piglet. Is this really the best Toyota can deliver?

Thing is the W123 could be run for 20 bucks a week in fuel also and its a decent size car.

This thread is funny because my feelings are the exact opposite of OP's point of view.

I think 9th gen Corolla is a better car than 10th and 11th because 10th and 11th gens (those are more like refreshes than new models) bring nothing new to the table except cheaper interior and an attempt at style, everything else is the same.

Other than that, Corolla still does what it’s supposed to do best i.e. have good reliability and gas mileage and from that perspective it is still one of the better choices in the market.

We test drove a new 2010 Corolla and the passenger seat creaked like crazy . So that put us off from a possible purchase of a Corolla . I always take a car on rough city / town streets to hear if any noises in / out of the car .

"Better" is subjective, and also subject to various definitions depending on who you ask. I had an '07 Corolla and loved it. Only reason I sold it is because my wife couldn't drive it (it was a stick shift) and we had a lemon of a minivan at the time and needed another vehicle that she could drive when the van was at the dealer.

I wouldn't have a problem paying for a new Corolla if it was discounted due to the dated technology (4 spd. auto, rear drum brakes, etc.). But sadly, it is still priced at a premium. Overall, it's a good car that gets the job done with little flash....the price is just too dang high for what you get.

For these cars, is anyone going to notice that its got drum brakes and how many speeds the automatic has? It's sort of selling feature even staying with the tried and true. It probably does pad the profits abit as well but the avoidance of unneeded complexity is a value to the buyer as well.
