Tesla has the highest death rate of any manufacturer

100% agreed ! But then that is the hard part.
Yes! Two things:
1. People drink and use drugs in all vehicle models. Nothing new. Some areas (mostly so-called dry counties) have enormous DUI-related death rates.
2. Ergonomics must be designed to fit human behavior, not vice versa. Simply because you cannot change motor skills like that. You cannot move the position of your eyes, which have evolved into a predatory location over tens of thousands of years, to more side location to allow better peripheral vision. That is why locating data in the middle of the vehicle does not make sense. It makes sense for manufacturers to cut costs, but not for a driver, whether the driver likes it or not. "Liking" some designs has nothing to do with practicality, safety, etc.

OMG. So no one looks at rear view mirrors, side mirrors, dash controls, whatever?
You have no idea what you are talking about. Ever heard of peripheral vision? Turning your head to check the surroundings?

You still don't get how that works right?
There is whole science around keeping driver, pilot etc. focused to look forward as much as possible, and your answer is: You look at side mirrors? Yes you do, but that is why bcs. of numerous studies they came up with blind side monitor so it helps you stay focused on the road.
Also, both MB and Porsche have all data in FRONT of the driver. Not that those insane screens are not dumb!

Folks, I need your help. I want to submit an application to the television series “Naked and Afraid”. Please cast your vote before I submit the application. Should it be @JeffKeryk or @Torrid who gets paired up with @edyvw?

Thanks in advance!

That might be pretty funny considering I don't think I have an ignore button to help me out there.

As far as it goes here, I've tried having the actual conversation I thought he was trying to prompt and I was wrong. That was my last bit of sanity I had for the situation. I wonder if he forgot his meds this week.

I do have a problem with Tesla revising the "usual" controls. In this case I'm specifically referring to turn signals and windshield wipers/washers.

I'm sure I could get used to using steering wheel controls, but would my hands go there automatically in an emergency (and sometimes turning on windshield wipers/washers can be urgent at the very least). I could even probably get used to a tiller with left and right movements producing turning to either side and acceleration and braking using fore and aft.

But why would I want to? I drive other vehicles and I don't really want to have to even briefly think about which vehicle I'm driving.

My '78 Ford Fiesta had a confusing set of stalks controlling brights, windshield wipers, windshield washers and horn. You pulled a stalk towards or pushed it away from you, pushed it down or pushed on the end. I'd be trying to honk at someone who was changing lanes on top of me and turn on the windshield wipers, and try to dim the headlights and have the windshield washers squirt (or something like that).

I'd be in favour of a law (regulation, whatever) requiring automakers to have a small list of standard controls in the same place and work in the same way. These controls would include: steering wheel, brakes, accelerator, horn, turn signals, windshield wipers, windshield washer and perhaps a few others.

You guys crack me up.

Maybe some of my fight has waned with age. I’m soon to be 72.

We all needed jobs and careers to feed ourselves. Important stuff. One time I had a boss I hated so much had I been able to lace his coffee with cyanide and gotten away with it I would have. Of course I’m kidding, but you guys get the idea.

BITOG doesn’t put food on the table. If you guys were hooked up to blood pressure monitors during your exchanges I am 100% confident your vitals wouldn’t look good.

I don’t understand why you guys lock yourselves in combat for days on end when it doesn’t really matter.

I think I get confused by someone appearing to want to have a thoughtful conversation using data by saying they want to have a thoughtful conversation using data and then not actually meaning they want to have a thoughtful conversation using data.

That and I'm on an on call extra duty this week. Ive been sitting at home for 4 days getting paid to do so. It's not my normal routine so I have some time to myself that I don't normally have, but it's not really free to roam time. I can't venture too far from home if a call comes in. This has been a good time waster this week between small projects I can get into at this time. Normally I'm home for 50-60 hours for my off days and then it's bounce back and forth from home out to outlying terminals for 6 straight days. The latter one for obvious reasons pays more.

Fortunately or unfortunately, I got time today. 🤣

You can't have a discussion with trolls. Know-it-all snide remarks are for children. A decent respect for other's likes and opinions makes for meaningful discussion.

"Methinks you protest too much" is a phrase derived from Shakespeare's play "Hamlet," meaning that someone is denying something so strongly that it makes them seem insincere, suspicious, worried, etc.

For those too young to know, this is what the interior of a properly designed driver’s car looks like. When I see those Mercedes photos above, I want to puke.

You could also find photos of the W124 or w123 or the E32/34, and those would also be representative of peak German ergonomic design.

We're a long way from that. VW still had it right up until a few years ago. The iPad is cheaper for the manufacturer and allows easier changes between models.

Atlas I had:

Everything located like it was in VW last 30 years. Digital cluster, that provides all important info in front plus ability to move map there.

While it looks “cooler,” I dare you to adjust AC during night.

Arguments like: “everyone does it,” is like dumb and dumber. Who will “outdumb” other company.
