Tesla Full Self Driving (FSD)

This is my biggest issue with it. It works right up until it doesn't. At that point the driver may have been lulled into a false sense of complacency and may be unprepared to take control.
Yep. Just like people.
Full disclosure, I have FSD Supervised but rarely use it. But my guess is, more and more vehicles will be on the roads with it whether I like it or not. I may try the new release tomorrow.

FSD tried to change lanes into a ditch for me last night. As good as it gets, it still has major failures when you least suspect.

I do not have any confidence left for FSD. I just unsubscribed. I caught it in plenty of time, but after it almost crashed into a semi when it slid last December, it's not being allowed a third strike.

I'll never recommend FSD to anyone again.

I finally got the time to properly download the file. I think the original video filming the screen doesn't show how aggressively the car swerved for the shoulder.

I can see it being a big help on highway drives over long distances.
Yeah, I can see it being fun on the interstate. All the major companies offer that type of self driving. Ford Blue Cruise, GM Super Cruise etc
I love driving and the interstates, make a game of it traveling as fast as I can without getting crazy or losing my license. But still there are times, when to sit back and chill is cool too

My wife wants a Tesla w/FSD so she can work on her laptop while the car handles the commute. Says her co-workers with Teslas all do it.

After reading this thread…I’m not sure that’s a great idea.

It will constantly yell at the driver for not paying attention if that's attempted. It does work well, but does require 100% attention as randomly and rarely it will do something undesired.

Just got FSD 14.3.3 along with software 2026.14.6.6. The visuals took a leap forwrd, and they were already pretty good.
Other drivers can be annoyed by FSD, because it follows the laws, like coming to a full stop at stop signs. What surprises me the most is it sees little stuff in the road and will slow, etc.
I don't use it much, so I can't really comment on FSD fairly.

I'm still on v14.3.2 and it has been better about highway usage maintaining speed, but it wants to drive 15mph over in town unless I drop it from chill to sloth and then back up to chill. That must be some glitch. I'm hoping v14.3.3 fixes this. I do use FSD a lot now, but there are days I'd just rather drive. I wish I had the ability to select cruise control when I didn't want to use FSD with putting the car in park to switch modes.

FSD has been pretty good overall, but I'm resistent to change and a complete control freak behind the wheel. If only traffic aware cruise control didn't still phantom brake I wouldn't bother with FSD.

I wholly believe self driving may be safer than the human population as a whole, it is not safer than human drivers who pay attention.

Pretty well accurate. That is where I think it is as of now. It's these weird outlier edge cases that take away from the safety stats. I hear a lot of talk on Reddit from people complaining FSD keeps giving them strikes and suspending their FSD use. Almost all of them admit to playing on their phones instead of watching where the car is going. I've never had this strike, but then again I don't trust it enough to not watch it and even if I did, I'd like to have plenty of warning if I felt the need to take over if something happened.

If you don't monitor it, yes. There's plenty of idiots out there.
Stupid, tired, distracted, angry, drunk drivers use their vehicles on a daily basis around the world. Now if those people had FSD they would be VASTLY safer.

Normal, attentive, intelligent, well-rested people not under the influence of anything? Well, FSD is still probably safer. Because it can see in all directions at once while you can’t. Even good situational awareness has its limitations. Even if you think you’re perfect.

I don't signal and drive into ditches. I can comfortably say I've neve done that. I have a number of videos from today when I have time to download them. Today was BAD.
