Tesla Drops USA Prices up to 20%

It happens in the stock market every day. The difference is it won't matter, even to those who bought cheaper. Because they'll all depreciate to nothing in time.
I wouldn't say it doesn't matter. Opportunity cost, loan amount vs gap insurance, etc still matters.

Problem is you can't return a car after you bought it, and if you can wait it is probably easier to cancel order before delivery if there's a rumor they are about to drop price (by checking the trend in used car price drop amount).

Are those who recently took delivery of their Tesla at the higher price getting a refund? If not then these constant price cuts have to be an irritation for those who bought high.
No. Why should I expect something like that? I agreed to the price when I bought the car. If anything the lower price makes me think about buying a second one. I know what I'm getting and I already liked the car for the price I paid for it.

Ugh... I just posted in the Tesla Stock price thing and then saw this thread.
Tesla losing (no longer qualify) half the $7,500 rebate starting 1/2024 on Model 3 all wheel drive and RWD.
Maybe it's been posted already? I dont know

Dunno if it's been posted, but anyone in the Tesla market knows this. Aside from the income tax credit, Tesla needs to clear out all the current Model 3s for the Highland. I expect the Highland to be available after Q1; just a SWAG. I'm a likely buyer, but will have to cut loose one of my cars. I ain't got no room. Sheesh.

I talked to someone who works in the Fremont plant while checking out the Cybertruck. Fremont makes all the Model 3s for the US.

I dont understand your reply to me  I guess its that west coast accent *LOL*
I'll do a search on "just a swag" too! Ok got it!

"Scientific wild-ass guess (SWAG) is an American English slang term meaning a rough estimate made by an expert in the field, based on experience and intuition. It is similar to the slang word guesstimate, a portmanteau of guess and estimate"

Certainly not in the next few years.
Many of the new models are being delayed.

The reality is that demand for new, especially expensive cars has fallen off a cliff and the remaining demand is from folks who can’t get a loan.

The demand problem isn’t specifically EV.
Though the people who normally buy 6 figure EVs are facing continued massive layoffs.

That is why vehicles like the Ford Maverick are selling better than Ford would want.

Worth noting TESLA is moving to Cobalt free batteries (not flammable) these are less expensive to produce but also align to the reduced credit.

BOLT 2.0 supposedly will also have unflammable Lifepo4 batteries.

TELSA Corp must have done something recently to spur sales / leases in my area?

Took the wife out street/mall cruising along one of the main shopping thoroughfares near us today as the weather was flat out gloriuos. I lost track , after counting up to at least a dozen or more shiny , bright and very brand new looking TESLAs. Mostly the model S is what I think about all of them were. I have to admit , as much as I do not need or want a full out EV ( a hybrid just seems to be the most practicle for us at this time) those very fine looking TESLA EV cars sure were something to see. All shiny , neat , bright and new looking in the afternoon sun. One even zoomed in and out of traffic just like many of the good old ICE muscle machines often used to do.(y)

Got back to the house late evening and saw a pretty interesting news article. This one , about another alternative energy source powered vehicle. Now this application and fuel source seems to certainly make a lots of sense. Article is about Chevron's attempt at another type of alt fuel to power "big rigs" that do so much of the daily long haul work across the globe.

Don’t worry - Dodge, Ram, and maybe even Jeep will soon step in with “0 down, 0 percent” loans!

Every time I see a Dodge or Mitsubishi my first thought is “Zero down.” 😀

Tesla just did 0.9% financing for the last 3 months on the Model 3 and Model Y. It ended at the end of last month.

Yeah, but in reality there is no deal in the 0.9% and that goes for all the automakers.
Cheap interest rates are paid for in the price you pay for the car. It's marketing promotions. Actually with most other makers you can trade the low rate for a price reduction on the car if you dont want a loan.

What caught my eye in you mentioned it ended last month.
But this month they cut the prices of some cars instead of promoting the low interest rate.
It's just a shell game they all play at least until they REALLY have to dump inventory.

Just really surprised me. All this time (last two years or so) I have never seen more than one Tesla around my house / town. Also have not seen many at all on the interstates. Then yesterday , they were popping up all over the place. I spoke to one girl a few months back the wife and I met about her ownership of one. She told me she loves it and only had two issues she was not too happy about with her Model 3. She says it eats up tires fast. Then she said her biggest gripe is she can not just go to any regular tire shop. She says they must go to the only Tesla place in her area that will work on her tires which is 35 to 40 miles from her house. Not sure that (only Tesla dealership or shop) is till the case.

I wonder how many got the mythical base $35,000 M3
A few. I met an owner who held out; Tesla tried to get him to take the $40K (cheapest) 2017. He had his reservation; they ultimately sold him the $40K car for the 35K.

The so-called Standard Range model did exist for a brief moment in 2019 before it was quietly and quickly discontinued.

Of course now you can get a new Model 3 Long Range for $35K if you qualify for the tax credit.

Maybe, but unlike standard dealers they aren't withholding deals to get the APR down. The random discount they are giving now are $2,100 per car and is not consistent across the board. They're selecting certain specific cars that are in inventory, which if you did the 0.9% for 72 month as opposed to the standard 5.9% they quote it's a savings of $4,900 on a LR RWD Model 3 fully financing it.

Tesla doesn't have their own banks, they were making deals with the bank to pay the difference.

Teslas inverters and batteries and motors are not special anymore, and their cars have the worst fit/finish in the industry, so their premium pricing is nose-diving to keep up with much better appointed competitors that have finally decided to go EV. Like I said all along, Tesla must evolve, but instead in the short term it looks like they are just giving up their massive mark-ups in part.
Wait, I thought that a model 3 was a 5 series or E-class equivalent??!?!?????

lol.

I’ve liked every Tesla that I’ve driven. But their pricing is coming more inline with reality and they’re starting to use pricing strategies that other overpriced vehicles (eg domestic full size trucks) use.

That new Model 3 Performance is looking pretty tempting! I could make life miserable for all the exotics...
The performance per dollar is an incredible bargain!

I want the Highland; not sure if I can wait...
Oh so they’re selling outgoing models at a big discount in anticipation of a new variant?

If that’s part of the current discount calculus then it’s a different story.

I'm pretty sure the Model S is the one in the 5 series segment. The Model 3 is definitely closer in size to a 3 series.

WSJ ran an interesting article on used EV sales. Tesla specifically has cut prices placing new owners upside down and further depressed used values. People can buy some used Tesla's for really cheap. The price cuts combined with over 80% lease penetration is going to insure low used priced for years to come.
