Iran and Saudi Arabia have taken drastic steps to prevent this situation.

So why do I have a hard time finding good news from Iran and Saudi Arabia?

We have a friend whose kid was messing up in school, typical 15 year old boy. A lot of tension going on in the house. Long story short the father said to the kid next time you mess up in school your in for a good beating, or something along those lines. Next day the kid tells the teacher because he failed a test that needed to be signed by his parents his father was going to beat him. Child welfare services got involved and went to the parents home. These are good middle class Americans BTW.

You make a great point there. I had the same thing happen, I did something wrong, and it was a spanking. It helps you learn quickly in my opinion. But when the school system quit allowing teachers to discipline physically (such as slaps on the wrist, grabbing the kid's ears, etc.), that's when the teachers would start saying how if the parents are beating you then they need to tell the teacher/principle.

I do believe that's why there's less spanking, especially in public, nowadays, because if the kid just says the parent hits them, even if it's unabusive, then the parents can get a visit from child services.

I hate this f***ing wussification of America...

A little off topic but it does go hand in hand with some of what's been posted here. The school system is failing to a degree, because there are teachers that are afraid of the kids attacking them, or destroying their property. So a lot of the bad behavior, or bad dressing is left alone. There are also parents that are both working and leave for work before the kids (teens) leave for school, so they have no clue how their kid is leaving the house. I see it here on my own block! I know a few teachers, and they push the bad ones through the system, its easier and safer! Sad...............

It is certainly not the world most of us have grown up in!

Don't forget the parents that are of the... "My child is an angel, I don't think he/she did that. No sir not them... Your teacher must be at fault"

I hate parents like these... That's why teachers are so afraid to discipline kids anymore.

When a middle school teacher was kind enough to call me about my oldest daughter's conduct in class, I told her to use whatever means was/were legal to stifle any unfavorable behaviors. It worked out fine.

I bet you your daughter is turning out to be a fine member of society... I know my parents did the same and I consider myself to be respected by friends, co-workers and society. I'm the polite guy that holds the door, says please/thank-you and tips when I get good service. I always put others before myself etc. I think this can all be attributed to learning "those" lessons in life early. I don't consider myself as the "me, me, me" part of my generation.

Javacontour said "society really doesn't care about the family". On that note, do some thinking about how our business culture negatively impacts the family. Real people are forced to overextend in many ways (overtime, extended travel) so the virtual people (the stockholders) benefit. How does that affect the family? Think of the negative values that are modeled to employees every day on the job, then passed to the family members at home.

I did the same thing with my son, it worked out fine! The little angel stories I hear from parents of younger children crack me up. If my son did wrong he heard about it. Now at 21 and almost 3 years in the Military he is seeing things that I did and said weren't so far off base after all.

Shame we can't upload all the values, and good and bad things we learned in our lives right into our kids heads. But then it would take all the fun out of raising a child.

I'd just like to know when it became 'fashionable' to show off your fat gut with a belly shirt. If you have a hard, lean, flat stomach..by all means, show off your hard work. But these teenage and up to middle-age girls / women wearing shirts that show off how much of their bellies roll over the top of their pants makes me want to point and laugh. Cover up that train wreck please...some of us may have just eaten.

This thread sounds like a bunch of grumpy old fartss gathered together in one room. The elderly have always complained about the ways of the young.

Who was it that said - When I was eighteen I thought my father was ignorant, but when I was 21 he had wisdom. It was amazing how much he had learned in three years....

I was waiting for someone to point this out! SO many of these girls wearing tight low jeans have no business doing such, or they don't have mirrors at home.
my conspiracy side tells me that all the artificial hormones in our food is causing girls to hit puberty sooner; a friend's daughter is 12 and she looks like she's 24, w/ the body to match. makes me feel real old.
and to avoid sounding like an old fahrt, it's not just young girls, plenty of them have moms that dress like/are w hores; there are plenty of MiLFs w/ DSLs out there teaching their girls about the world.
one more point: my daughter is 6, and it's hard to buy clothes that are nice even at that age; all the skirts are VERY short, and many shirts have flirty slogans on them. marketing reflects society/society reflects marketing.

I blame the people that make the Spandex Clothes. They should limit the size they make these outfits in, and the amount of stretch. That would keep a lot of these Heffers (sp) covered up, and give us middle aged Pervs less to talk about.

Pretty hard to find decent clothes for women. My wife sometimes buys herself boys shirts in size 14 (XL), which is roughly adult small. Because they are more conservative than the funky weird and oftentimes revealing womens clothing.

If I were king of the world, clothing stylists would be summarily executed. (Good thing I am not King of the World eh).

A minimum length on shirts and a minimum height on jeans would go a long way as well. If department stores would create a position for someone to stand outside the womens' dressing room and give them an honest opinion on thier prospective purchases, I'd apply for that job today.

If I see another 40+ y.o. wife and mother walking the grocery store isles in her teenage daughter's low-rise jeans and belly shirt, I may vomit on her Manolo-Blahniks.

Nominal testosterone levels of male increasing with age. So may be it is not the newer styles that are looking like revealing, but what the elder eyeballs are filtering in especially if this guy is a 50 year old speeding with his minivan.

Greeks used to say gods made the humans with two sexes to have fun time with the positions they fall into while seeking for each other. Someday humanity will get out of this eventhough Greek gods will get angry. While we may have custom select genetics, easier and more reliable tube-babes sexuality will have no real function. Afterall on a consumption society only point in getting a child could be to have fun time in the home. The styles are in such a way that revealing dress is just a gadetry. Not the exetnd of revealing but the way and manners should be read from an eastihetical point I think.
