Preparing to change the oil in my '89 5.0L Mustang which has a heavily modified supercharged small block Ford V8 (306 cid) and finally have hit about 7500 miles using conventional oil. Moving to synthetic and have always preferred using Purolator brand oil filters. Purolator pn PSL30001 used to be the top end synthetic media filter for a SBF, but it has been discontinued as they have started repackaging their product line.

I have a System1 reusable oil filter sitting on the shelf - what is the general opinion of these units? Are they adequate in terms of filtration? They claim to filter anywhere between 35-70 micron depending on the model purchased.

Lot of mess involved cleaning a reusable filter. Easier to use something like a fram ultra and get filteration down to 20micron and less.

Agreed, I've yet to see a reusable oil filter that has a respectable filtration rate or does not significantly effect oil flow to do so.

I'm really not a fan of the concept.

They stop what are comparatively rocks from getting through compared to filtering...

And when you clean them, there's a pretty good chance that you are going to get the rocks onto the "clean" side.

They aren't much of a filter - more like a fine screen.

The big stuff that does the most damage (15 microns or larger) goes right on through.

An oil filter you have to mess with every oil change for ~$165? For that price, you can probably get 20 or so Fram Ultra filters which will do a better filtering job, and are less hassle. I don't see how the analysis closes for the System One filter.
